Virus protector kicks patch

I'm trying to download the 47772 to 48249 patch. My virus program locks it out and deletes it with a warning notice. I downloaded the 48249 upgrade patch with no problems. I'm running an HP Pavilion with Windows 8. Where can I find a patch that's not "possibly infected"?

Turn off your antivirus when downloading and installing the patch. It isn't infected. What anti virus program are you running? Some are notorious for giving false alerts.

You know its about time this issue was sorted. You should not be turning off antivirus software. Its bad advise Its also there for a reason. This is the only software Ive ever used where Ive been told repeatedly to turn off antivirus. Not that I personally ever have. If the file does not download its because the antivirus has suspicions about it. Thats its job. So its time to get this sorted!! But then I doubt it will be as many other issues have not been addressed either.

There are very good reasons why antivirus software should be turned off during installation/patching, and Trainz is not the only program that requires this.

Firstly, the antivirus software checks every single file, which dramatically slows down the process. Whilst some antivirus tools allow only certain filetypes to be checked, these still include .exe/.dll files.

Secondly, some antivirus programs have been known to flag up false positives, which are a big problem if they happen part way through an installation/patching process, as the process will quite often fail as a result of locked files or even removed files (especially .exe files) as a result, which the user has no control over.

Thirdly, whilst I agree that an antivirus program is there to protect the system, sometimes it's actually more of a hindrance as some processes (including Trainz patching) has to perform actions that the software may think is a virus attack when it's not, which is common in installation/patching routines.

You will probably see some installation programs telling you to turn off antivirus software as well - this is why.

I think they should be tested against the normal Microsoft anti virus products but not anything else. The problem with many is they aren't very good at detecting malware but are good at flagging innocent files. Good security is more about process than anything else, so if you know the source is good then you don't need to run antivirus software on the file.

Installation instructions in Trainz specifically instruct you to (highly suggest) "Temporarily" turn off your antivirus when installing and patching.

I just set my antivirus to ignore the Trainz directory and processes. Haven't had a problem.

step into the light and buy a router!

That only protects against certain types of attack. Most common vector these days is visit an infected web site, I think S&C was infected recently. They do provide another layer of protection and for some reason I seem to recall IPv6 can be more secure than IPv4 but I forget why.

I think it's just that "things that are newer are often secure". I could be wrong, though.

Contains IPSec but there seems to be an issue with issuing the keys. There are other issues to do with the conversion running IP6 over IP4 especially with Vista etc. but once IP6 is more widespread it should be safer.
