VinnyBarb's Tunnels

Get over it
Yes, I know he has passed into a better place but I have used his tunnels on all my routes and now they are messed up in TS12 and TANE. The spline point is now placed in the tunnel farther than it should be which causes problems with the tunnel spline. Any one else having this problem or is it just me and if so can it be fixed in the config file? Thanks.

VinnyBarb gave me all his meshes, see if you can identify why the problem is occurring and identify the mesh itself, and I will see if I can fix it. No promises though.

Peter, thanks for replying but I have no idea what to look for or where. Give me a hint or point me in some direction and I'll see if I can help.

Knowing the names would help. especially the names that he used for the mesh files, get these from the config.txt or list the KUIDs and I will get them from the DLS. What would also help would be a screen shot showing what is happening. It sounds like I will need to shift the mesh in relation to the centre but that is just a guess.

An example is Tunnel Concrete 1Track,<kuid2:184151:388:2>.
The problem is the new config format for tunnels (splines). The old format used the initiator and terminator for the tunnel entrances, which did use the tunnel track. The updated tunnels use new format, replacing the initiator and terminator with endcap-prev and endcap-next. These endcaps are attached to the end of the tunnel (spline), and don't have a track.

Thanks for that pointer and the KUID. Seems that essentially, the new tunnels are like a worm with a head each end. Unfortunately, Herbert's meshes don't make it clear how the tunnels relate to the spline points. I would guess that the end caps would be positioned in line with the tunnel mouth. I'll download the you mention above and have a look.

Thank you Peter and Peter. You two seem to know what you're doing so I'll leave this problem in your hands. Please, if you find a solution give me a heads up so I can replace the tunnels. Thanks again.

Now I'm going to break a confidence, sorry, Herbert, it had to happen.

After being banned for what he considered was a fallacious and biased reason, he opened another account under the name of Lendorf, user ID#185369 and uploaded 33 spline tunnel items to the DLS. Before I get too involved, please check these, they may include updated versions of his original tunnels. He was the sort of person that would devote time and effort to getting things right.

I already had them but was looking under the track category and forgot they were in the scenery section under splines. Yes, they work and better still loaded wellcars fit the openings. Are you really 87 years young? I find that this game/sim keeps my mind/brain working and helps me stay sharper, even though my wife would like to argue that point. Thanks again for your help and if you do decide to fiddle around with the other tunnels please let me know. Oh yeah, I'm only 71.

About the other tunnels, did Herbert duplicate the earlier 'track' ones? If so, I won't touch them.

I wouldn't claim to be 'young' but for some lucky reason 'genes' perhaps, I am not 'old' Using the same descriptor I feel about '79 years old'. I agree about Trainz keeping the mind sharper, so many people retire and just vegetate and that is when they age rapidly. Perhaps if you keep your mind 'young', it looks after your body. I dunno! Trainz has kept me involved and thinking since 2001

Cheers

Had some problems getting logged on but I'm good now. The tunnel I used the most was concrete with supports, kuid2:184151:388:2, not posts but included along the sides. I took a look at the other ones, lendorf's and they have no supports and are of a different color/texture but they will work. Whatever floats your boat. I appreciate all your help. Thanks.

I've managed to look at the structure of the Lendorf version and I can see where they are different. My guess was correct, the spline version has the spline points at the tunnel mouth. I will see if I can fix. I've just been digging a little deeper and now I am confused. Please email me or post a screenshot of the front of the one you require.
