Hey guys, I was wondering... What card is better - the 128 MB ATI Radeon X1300, or the 256 MB ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro? I know that the HD 2400 has HD playback and more memory, but technology wise, I was just wonering how good of a purchase I made with that card

Are you saying you already bought the HD2400 Pro?

Either way they're about the same. Not the HD fluf, but in pure perfomance.

The big difference though is that the HD2400 is a DX10 card so it's better in terms of future gaming.

Yeah, I already bought it, and the X1300 was my old card.
The reason I bought it is because I wanted a good card for my 20" widescreen monitor, and I might upgrade to Vista... ...or not
Another reason that I bought it is because I needed a half height card for my Dell Dimension C521, and that was the only new one that looked good.
If I could have, I would have got somethin' like the HD 2950 or up.

Ah well, as long as it does what one needs there's no need to regret it.
Just curious, how does a basic level card like the HD2400 Pro handle Trainz? I rn a ATI AIW X800 XT and compared to a HD2400 it theoretically runs circles around a card like that.

It may be that I have all the Catalyst drivers turned completely down/off... or may be that the other stuff in my computer is just faster? But I see what you mean.

When running a route like the Marias Pass, I can get up to about 45 fps when just sitting in place, and when generating sceenery, I get no lower than 7 fps in a place like downtown Kalispell

Also, on my new computer at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8649386&type=product&id=1195599475702 TC runs exellently on my 24" Gateway monitor at full 1920x1200 compared to my other computer with the Radeon HD 2400 Pro at 1680x1050
