Very beginner question

Hi,

I have just been able to place my order for Trainz Classics meanwhile I'm fiddling around with the old TRS 2006....

How can I drive in the cab with full commands and physics enabled but without worrying about the switches boredom ? Every single time that I'm enjoying in driving a train I find myself on the wrong way or on another part of the map cause I didn't manage switches....

I would like to drive with full reality on but I woul like those stupid switches already ready for my destination. I tried to let the engineer " drive to " a location and few second later " stop the train " and go on by myself...no way......:'(

Thanks in advcance

driving Trainz

Hi gunter2,

I think the only way to do this is go into map view in driver, follow the track you want to drive and set all the switches so you stay on the right track.

Thanks for the answer,

anyway do you usually do all the job by hand using the map ? How can you handle situations where there are dozens of switches one close to each other ??

Setting switches

Hi gunter2,

I guess you just have to be patient. If you adjust your view to directly above each switch you want to change and right click on the red & green arrow that will become the default position for the switch. You can also set the default position in surveyor but it might be easier in driver.

hope this helps,

You might like to try one of the Razorback Railway activities. They work with TRS2004 SP4 and TRS2006 SP1 and you can run them in DCC or CAB mode. To the user both versions appear as if they were a TRS2004 scenario. We have a selection of freeware actitivies and payware activities.

In each activity you are given directions to follow. In most cases the activity itself sets all the junctions for main line driving. Sometimes the activity also sets the junctions for shunting operations and you just have to obey the instructions, but in other activities you must puzzle out what's needed and set the junctions yourself while shunting.

To access our activities you'll need to register with us which is simple and free of charge. Then go into the "Getting Started" section of our FAQ for details of the essential files you need to download and install. If you run into any problems then we have a friendly forum where questions can be posted, plus a Help Desk system for technical problems which need expert assistance.

We have a free standalone slide show program available which gives you some idea of our layouts and our activities - but of course in the real thing you'll be the driver.

Have fun!

I'm pretty sure the Marias Pass Approach activities involve automatic switchtes, and I know they have an activity where you drive Amtrak No. 7 (Westbound Empire Builder) from one end to the other.

I also want to say that the same holds true for the Dresden-Nuremburg route.

What you can do is set the route for the AI to control, but when it starts, do 'Stop Train' and the train will stop for you to drive and the switches will be set for the route the AI would take! ;)

But suppose I don't want to go blazing through every industry located alongside my mainline!

You can also use the j-key while running

Hi,
I just checked and the "j key" (toggle switch ahead) and " control-j key" (toggle switch behind) works in both cab and dcc modes. This would allow you to control the position of the switches as you drive without having to keep checking the map. I don't know if that would suit you more when on a route or whether you prefer doing it the other way and just using the j-key for wondering off the beaten path once in a while,
=gerry=

If you already know the route that you want to travel, you could go into surveyor and set the switches the way that you want them to be, save the map as a new name and then go into driver. The switchs should be set the way you want them in driver under the new maps name.
Happy New Year.
Mike
