Very bad quality control

I got the 2006 trainz for a xmas present. Went to install it and the serial number sticker on the cd case was for a completely different software. Went over to best buy and they opened up all of their stock and all the stickers were wrong.

So here i sit, cant install the darn thing and all the support people at trainz get 3 weeks off for xmas......... nice time of year to be gone with all the xmas sales that happened. Where do i apply for a job?

Thanks,

Jim

more info

By the way, went to www.merscomsupport.com like the documentation said 24/7 support for trainz.

sent them an email over 5 days ago and didn't even get an auto-reply. If auran is contracting to them for support services, they aren't getting what they pay for.

been there, done that. If you read their forum posts, this is a huge huge issue all over the country and has been going on for months.

The problem is simple.......... THEY DON'T REPLY TO THE EMAILS.

I think Auran should look around and find a real company for support and not a bunch of kids working out of their moms garage.

Hi jamesgriffin

The delay in a response could be due to the Christmas holidays and people being off, but in the past everyone who has posted about this seems to get it resolved through contact with Mercom who gives them a proper serial number. If you could wait a day or two now that the holidays are over you'll probably get what you need from them.

Good luck.

I also got Trainz 2006 for a Christmas present. I had no problem with the registration. The program works OK. Mu problem is that the download station only works some of the time. Most of the time the download stops partway through. I expect the servers are overloaded and nobody is home to mind the shop. Really bad but I'm hoping things will improve. If not Trainz will leave my station and I'll go back to MSTS.

Trolleydriver-you need a "First Class Ticket" to overcome the server full problems-gives access to a server with much more bandwith and without a daily download quota which you will find is pretty restrictive if you try to download any big routes as with all the needed content you easily exceed the limit. It's the "no such thing as a free lunch" syndrome.

Well worth doing (as a user since the original launch of Trainz so I'm totally biased and hooked.)

originalwelshborder ... I already have a First Class Ticket and it was activated several days ago. I have been able to download at high speed but more often than not I get no response or things just stop. I don't know if this is a Download Station server problem or my own ISP here in Canada that is causing the problems. I would really like to know if anyone else (especially with a FTC) has had download problems over the past few days. Thanks.

Hi trolleydriver

I have noticed lately that during downloads it sometimes stops.

Never had this before, so i assume it is a server or file problem.

Usually what happens is it downloads for a while till it reaches the bad file, then after showing the progress bar it just stops and will not install that item or continue on to the next.

What I have found is if it does this then right click on the offending file in the download window and select delete. It then ignores that file and goes on to download the rest.

Going by what others are saying, I think the DLS servers are having a problem with links to some files. I have noticed also that some files will not show in the downloads window, but are actually on the server. Maybe it is time for a full clean up like the forum has had.

I installed Trainz2006 a month or so ago. I was able to successfully download ONE item from the download station, (using CMP). It encouraged me to enable my First Class ticket. Unfortunately, since then my "days left" ticker counts down, but I'm unable to download ANYTHING!

I always get "Unable to download, Server full..." message. The latest download station update I can see is Jan 2 2007 which tells me that I'm ABLE to access the download staion, but not actually download.

I've been on the World of Trainz forum and have had lots of advice from others concerning port numbers and firewalls. As far as I can tell, everything is configured properly, but still no successful downloads.

Any advice would be great!

Have you tried the fix of re-entering your username and password in the "Planet Auran" profile screen-even though it will already be correct. This refreshes the settings and is a known fix for the access problem.

WELL GUESS WHAT EVERYONE?? It's kind of bizarre, but I went to the actual web page, (Thank you WheelChock), and tried to download from there too. The first item I selected, it said the same thing in a pop up window. The second item I selected ACTUALLY DOWNLOADED!

So, on a hunch, I went back into CMP and now it's WORKING!

Don't know why, or how. Perhaps I had to go to the download station and get "recognized" somehow?

Anyway, until next time, THANKS FOR THE HELP EVERYONE. I'm not planning on changing any of my settings just to experiment!

A BIG welcome to all our new American and Canadian members.
I hope Auran can work this problem out with their US distributors quickly and to your satisfaction, because you are about to have the ride of your life.
Say good bye to your wife and family and forget about your chores around the house, you are now a TRAINZ hermit.:D
When you get up and running properly you'll love the experience.
There is a huge wealth of experience and knowledge in the TRAINZ community out on the internet ready to help you learn.
Welcome guys!!! and I encourage you to persevere with it.

Kindest regards
Sel
P.S. I receive no renumeration from Auran for this statement, I have had no problems with TRAINZ over the four years I have been a member, apart from a few teething problems that I can blame on User inexperience.

I have experienced a similar situation recently. Most of time I've tried to use DLS I've not experienced any problem, but in a few of occasion the server appears to be down.
