Very annoying forum functionality

I am always very reluctant to post a reply to any thread here because of the way the forum software works. When surfing through the forum, there must be a timer at work that gets reset every time you enter a new page, and when that timer times out, it automatically marks all posts since your last visit as having been read whether you have visited them or not.

This means that if you spend too much time composing your reply, that when you submit it and resume browsing, it is very difficult to tell what you have not read yet because all the bold text is gone.

This also happens if you are surfing and must leave your computer for a few minutes to answer the phone, go to the bathroom, or anything else, when you get back, all the bold text is gone!

Is there a way to disable this "feature", or am I forever condemed to chain myself to the keyboard each time I visit the forum?

You are quite right, this is annoying at times.
Now Auran have added the signals function to the forum, there is no need for a time out, if all that’s left are the post s that are of no interest to you, all you have to do is double click on the signal, to clear the outstanding posts.

No way to disable it.
Best thing I do, I open threads in new tabs in IE. If I want to respond to a thred and the post may be long or I get worried about being logged out, I first finish checking any new posts since my last visit. Then I log out BUT I still have the tab(s) of any threads I want to reply to open, in these tabs I may have hit reply while having quotes so the box for a new message is open.
Next I go to Notepad and type out everything I want. Log in and copy what is needed into the reply box and send.

If you use your browser 'Back' button to return to index pages after posting you will return to the original unrefreshed index pages which still show unread posts as of your arrival...

Yes, but my beef it that I like to check out the new messages and so do a 'new' search, but this will time out after 80 or 90 mins. Why does it do this?
