Hi what Os are you running XP or Vista?
if Vista you need to be runing is as admin also you need to run download helper, content dispatcher and P/shed all as admin.
I have adapted this info which was for TRS2004 as it still applies to UTC.
How to run UTC in Vista
Please note these instruction assume that you are installing in the normal way that Vista is set up in other words you must install with UAC ON.
Normally your UAC will be ON by default when you first get your laptop or PC so leave it on until you have completed the instructions below.
Make sure you have any Virus type program disabled or not running before you install UTC or a service pack and paintshed.
Hi all as a result of helping Nickrocks with his problems with Vista I thought I would put in here what I found out and what I did to resolve the problems.
The problems being helper downloading but not installing content and no existing downloads or custom content being loaded in.
1 as the thread How to install UTC or other software in Vista so as to avoid problems later says you must not let the disc auto run and install itself.
2 You must open or explore the disc then on locating the setup exe right click and select run as administrator.
3 Once you have the basic build installed you will want to install the service pack.
4 Again locate the service pack Build 327 - Retail) to Ultimate Trainz 1.5 (Build 404
and right click and run as administrator.
5 You will also need to do the same with the paintshed exe.
6 Since April 04 the Download station has been updated so you will need the Trainz Content Dispatcher Update.
Click on the link below
http://files.auran.com/TRS2004/downl...DLS_update.zip this will also need to be run as admin.
Ok now there is one more thing you need to do, go to (default location) my computer local drive C program files Auran TRS2004 Bin.
Open the bin folder and locate the trainzhelper exe and right click select properties then click onto compatibility put a tick on the box compatibility mode where it says run this program in compatibility mode for .
In the box below make sure you have displayed windows XP (service pack 2) and at the bottom of the page where it says privilege level put a tick in the box run this program as an administrator then click ok to shut.
Let me explain why you need to do this I found out that if you do not do this when you use the helper it will look like it is downloading the content but when you look in the downloads folder you will see nothing in there and you can in fact keep downloading the same files over and over again.
So with the helper now being run as admin it will download and put the files in the downloads folder.
What else I found out is if you just click on the desktop icon and run no downloads or custom content will be loaded in all you will get is the built in content.
So you need to right click on the UTC desktop icon and select run as admin then click on launch trainz it will now load in all the custom and downloads, note you will need to do this every time you you load UTC in.
If you need to run the Content manager you will need to run the content manager exe as admin.
One more thing when I tried to run UTC on the laptop for the first time I got an exception I had to put this into the trainzoptions doc.
-intro=disable
So how do you do that , we are working with Vista so you cant just go the UTC folder open and then add the line into the trainzoptions doc because this is in the programs files and Vista wont let you.
What you need to do is first copy the options doc to a folder in my documents then open and copy in the line close and save.
Next you need to delete the original text doc from the UTC= (Trainz) folder, Vista will let you do this but you do have to go click onto two security notices, then go to where you have your backed up copy with the new line in and use cut and then paste into the UTC folder, Vista will need you to ok this via two security notices but it will allow you to do it.
I normally run UTC on my main PC which has XP and it was not until I tried to install and run UTC on my laptop which has Vista I found out what a pain Vista is, you don't get these problems with XP to my mind Vista is a load of ####
