Updating obsolete assets

I'm in the process of updating everything I can find to the most recent versions that will work in 2009, and I've got a couple of questions.

First, how much of the KUID does Trainz use when loading an asset? There are a number of "fixed" assets that have been updated by someone other than the original author. The second part of the KUID is the same, but the author's fragment is different. Do I then need to comb through all of the routes that use the original and change the original in the config file?

I've found a few items in which the "updated" asset is a completely different object! For example, a phone booth is now a tree, or other totally inappropriate object. What's with that?

On another rant, I've also found a few updated assets that show up as available in CMP, but aren't actually in the DLS. Some of CincyRouthernRwy's steam loco's appear in CMP as "v2" but a search of the DLS won't find them, even when searching the entire database.

If it has been updated with a new kuid then the old kuid should have been obsoleted and will show that in cmp. If it has then all maps will use the new kuid number. Have you searched the download station as cmp is not good at finding everthing.

The items from CincyRouthernRwy's steam loco's appear in CMP as obsoleted but a search of the DLS won't find them, even when searching the entire database. Not found, even when I search for them using the listed new KUID. And yet CMP shows them. And tries to download them.

Problem is CMP for some reason won't download anything bigger that about 1.6 MB in size. It looks like it completes the download, but jst sits there forever with the progress bar at 100%
Started doing that about 6 months ago, and nobody's even suggested a possible cure.

If they are marked obsolete then they have been replaced by another kuid or version. If you click on the obsolete item and view versions it should show the replaced version kuid. Which kuid number is obsolete and what is the new kuid number?

I would like to know how to unset the obsolete flag for some assets, as the updated ones are faulty. THe two miscreants are LMS Home Tall Semaphore and LMS Distant Tall Semaphore by Jetstreamsky. These two items produce the equivalent of 20 metre tall signal labels in the installled Hawes sessions, and having removed them, the obsolete ones still installed do not appear in the session.

As I stated, I removed them, but that didn't alter their status. However I reinstalled the new ones again and ran through asset-x.
No worries.
