Unstoppable?

I remember that train; It came through our town. The sharp curves in unstoppable are much like and inspired by the CSX mainline that snakes sharply through town.

"Law enforcement firing at the gas tank to try to drain the fuel..."
Good luck with that...:o

If they were firing AR-15's with .223 caliber (5.56mm) ammo or perhaps a 1911 pistol with .45 ACP ammo then yes, good luck with that. I can't imagine either round penetrating the fuel tank. Now on the other hand a big ol' Barrett .50 BMG rifle could pierce the tank and create a decent leak by making a 1/2" hole.

They were aiming for the Emergency Fuel Cutoff button (but it must be depressed for several seconds, I hear).

I think they shoulda' hired Denzel Washington to climb onboard the moving loco via a helicopter rope ladder.:hehe:Much more thrilling !

They would have had to shoot it rather low, as far as I know fuel doesn't jump up to flow out of a hole, 1/2" or not.:hehe:

Yeah, I got that much from the movie...:)

If I remember correctly the shooting was pretty much a desperate last attempt. CSX was taking their sweet time to solve the problem, and there was a northbound train near kenton. While unless you know this railroad, the only double main or siding as you could say is south of findlay and is very short.
