Unlocking junctions in Trainz 12

In Trainz 12 is there any way I can keep a switch/junction from automatically locking when a player controlled train approaches it?

You can set the trigger radius for the switches/junctions smaller.

Go to the triggers and track marks on the track pullout tab. Click on the switch and set the default trigger radius from 20 meters down to something more to your liking. I set mine to 5 meters for my yard areas, and that really helps.

@JCitron, I gave that a try and nothing happens... I'm just trying to do switches so they don't lock in place and I can still change the direction freely no matter how close I get to them...

That's why you need to set the trigger radius smaller. If it's less than the 20 meter radius, then you can drive closer to the switch before it locks. Outside of this, there's no way to not lock the switches which I find annoying as well.

When a controlled consist approaches a junction, you'll see the lock over it. As JC stated, you can't release it. What I do is to stop the AI consist. The junction is released and you can control it. Once finished, return the control to that consist and it will resume what it was doing. All this results in a semi-automatic operation, but then, you have a say on what happens.

Thats exactly what I tried and it doesn't seem to work... I set the switch's trigger to 5.00 and it still locks even when Im more than a 1/4th of a mile away from the switch... I't does seem to work though if I bring my train to a full stop at the switch though so that might be of some help maybe?

You could have another consist nearby which is locking the switch. I had to adjust some parked consists due to that reason.

Im just testing a route I'm working on so Im only using 1 train, but it seems to unlock if I bring the train to a full stop at the switch.

Check the radius of the switch and ensure it is what you set it too. I've made that error too, which is annoying.

I have 1 being tested at 2 meters but still, it will only unlock if I come to a full stop at the switch. I've made sure that the radius is actually set for 2 meters which it is, but it will still lock itself when my train is still in motion even if I'm way outside of its radius.

This "feature" appeared when Multiplay was implemented. Before that, junctions did not lock with approaching consists. I find it very annoying, and I wish it would be taken out, or at least give us an option to have it or not. Really, people have complained of other subtle things, and basic ones such as this one, continue to bother us. At the time, there were many posts about this, but it has died into oblivion. Do we have to make noise again about this?

More than likely.

I've cracked the code on this. It'll take time and effort, as well as the Turnout L and Y stubs. Can't have locked junctions if the came doesn't recognize that there are junctions on the layout.
