Unhappy with Auran over Trainz 2009

I have been a Trainz user since UTC. I have Trainz 2006 running nicely on my system. I bought Trainz 2009, installed it, and it crashed when I tried to run it.:(

I ran all of the diagnostics and everything looked good. I sent the crash report to crashreport@auran.com. I then posted a message with the support people. The support people said it was my system w/o even telling me what the crash report indicated. They were not helpful and did not seem to care.

So I asked how I could get a refund. They said to go to the online shop and read the rules. When I could not find the return/refund rules; I posted a followup message asking help to locate the return/refund process. Two days have gone by with no reply.

What gives? Up till now I have had great luck with Trainz and Auran. Why are they falling down now?

Help!

Well, if you give the community more information about the crash and your system and such, we may be able to help you get it running.;)
I can't comment on that other stuff though, as I don't have any knowlege in that area.

Can you please supply us with your system specs. We may be able to help.

Also, what were you doing when TS09 crashed? :)
Thanks
Zec

Hello, Zogger,

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience with TS2009 so far. The helpdesk is generally very supportive, though it does receive a staggering number of queries. They will get back to you.

As to why it won't run for you, it could be number of things, but it's generally related to video hardware and/or video driver issues. Considering you have TRS2006 running nicely, I'd expect your setup to run TS2009.

Sometimes these problems can be resolved by simply switching display mode in the options available from the launcher; sometimes by updating to the latest drivers for your specific video card.

You weren't specific in your post, when exactly does it crash? Do you see the Launcher? The more detail you can give us, the more likely we can help.

Cheers!

Not sure why you can't install/run TRS2009 WBE. Whilst there has been a few others with the same problem, 99.5% of the people that have brought 09 WBE have been able to install & run it. (sure, some have found some bugs, but Auran are working through those).

If you can post more details of exactly whats going wrong, someone within the community may be able to help you.

A couple of things you can do is (a) download, install & run CCleaner. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ - Runner both the Cleaner & Registry cleaner. (1st & 2nd icons on the left).
(b) Whilst it is unlikely to help in your case, it wouldn't hurt to run "defrag" & "Error Check" through the hard drive you are trying to install too. (just incase there are any lost clusters or cross linked files). Unlikely, but wouldn't do any harm...
Cheers, Mac...

Probably financial trouble with all this finance problems and fears of another depression. I don't know really. Thats just my guess.

Posted Details at Other Part of Forum

I posted details about my issues over at another part of the forum. Hopefully I can get some more suggestions.

Thanks for replying.

zogger,
Why post your problem details in another part of the forum ????? You started this tread wanting peoples help !!!!!
Some people have replied to this tread. (offering help). I'm sure they are not going to now go searching through the forum to find your "other thread" which details your problem.

This has to be one of the quickest ways to get the community to start just ignoring your threads/posts. (when they find out your posting the same question/s in more than one thread)...
I see that you are pre-Nov 2006 (note, did see the UTC)... so your not new to Trainz. I only see 4 "posts" so you maybe new to the forum, so I guess you can be forgiven for possibly not understand how the forum works - should work.
These comment may seem abit harsh, (& I appoligies if they are, nothing personal) but if you want fellow Trainz'ers help, there is a right way & wrong way of going about it. As you probably know, there are hundreds of people within the community that are prepared to give up there time to help you & other solve there Trainz's problems.

The above comments are also for "SOME" of our younger newbies that have been getting abit carried away and posting all over the place... (Eg; 80+ posts in a week, sometimes bringing up treads that died 6 - 9 months ago) !!!

Hope you managed to get your 09 problem/s sorted & happy Trainzing...
Cheers, Mac... :o

Footnote; I'm not sure of Auran's refund policy. If it's anything like the rest of the gaming industries policy, you maybe out of luck. In NZ, if you buy a sealed boxed copy of a game, & break the plastic wrapping - seal, 99% of the time it's not returnable. (no refunds or swaps). That's to stop the pirates copying, (or installing the game) then trying to return it... (I'm not for one second trying to infer you maybe a pirate) !!!!! Cheers...

Viewing distance problems and 3D backdrops

I was really glad to get TS2009 with 5k view distance. But 5km are displayed in surveyor, exterior train view (2) only while during interior view (1), camera view (3) and free roaming (4) the view distance is 3.5 km roughly (2 miles). Did anyone notice it?
Another issue with backdrops. These look real if watch directly across them but when route turns they become flat and unreal so why don't make some tall 3d towers with backdrop feature, the view will be realistic, i think!!!

With no intention to hijack, I would also like to point out that backdrops become a nuisance at great distances when they're out of range, of a lighter shade than the sky and looks like some floating..thing.
Perhaps it would be good if the vanishing distance for backdrops to be say, twice that of the user settings rather than unlimited.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

I was hoping you could tell me where backdrops can be found in 2009.
Thanks,

Hanging backdrops

Nicky9499, I agree, that backdrops hang and the reason is that baseboards vanish behind horizon line but the Earth in simulator does not round down behind horizon, so that's why. So it is not udjustable by user.

My trainz 2009 died all the time on me until I installed all of the patches, now it runs fine.

I have 2009WBE and am on the second (i suppose it isn't the same one) patch. The first one took about two or three times as long as the original install! How many patches are there anyway? Thanks, JL.

Tell us your build number so that we can tell you whether you are up to date, or whether you require any additional patch/s. We can even provide you with the link/s to any additional patch/s... EG; - http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=53076
