My Trainz Simulator 2010 Engineers Edition was working fine. Now when I try to open it I get this error message. I have tried to reinstall it twice, with no success. Any ideas?

Hi a64....

Based on your post, it appears that you have not registered your Trainz software.

Look up ^^^ and you will see ...REGISTER...and enter you "key" that should be included with your software.....either by email from N3V or in the back of your namual if you bought it that way.

Once you have done that, your "TS2010" station stop.... RED Dot with white inside will show up.

This should help you reload and start enjoying the game.

Good luck... and if you have more questions...please post here.

Regards,

Thanks for the advice. As I had mentioned, I had set my version up when I purchased it originally and it was working fine. It was the boxed version and you are right the serial number and such were on the back page of the manual. My kids manage to rip that page off and my wife threw it away, really:o . I do have the serial number written down, however. I don't have "the key" that you mentioned. I did go and re-register my serial number but did not see the TS2010 station stop that you referenced. My game still will not launch. Should I try to re-install it again? Am I missing anything?

Thanks again for your time. BTW-the last time I loaded it, I disabled the Virus scan...still nothing though.

It may also be worth posting which operating system you are using.

Also, make sure that your drivers (graphics and DirectX) are up to date.

While you are at it, make sure Trainz is set to run as administrator.

I can give you instructions if you are not sure on how to do that.

Shane

Shane,

That would be helpful. You probably don't need to spoon feed me, just tell me where to find that option and I should be able to do it.

thanks again

Certainly - the option you need to tick is in the Properties box for the Trainz shortcut (Compatibility tab - it's the last tick box at the bottom)

Shane

OK - did you get anywhere with regards to checking for driver updates?

For DirectX updates, see my sticky thread in this forum.

For graphics card updates, what graphics card do you have?

Shane

My graphics card is a Radeon HD 5670 and I am not familiar with Direct X. When I go to "options" and "display settings" my "openGL" box is checked. I will visit your Direct X post...can I download it somewhere? and do you recommend it?

As for the DirectX updating, as I am the creator of that thread, I can safely say that it should be clear enough to use - the relevant links for downloading DirectX are in the post (http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=58843)

As for the graphics card, I will have a look for driver updates.

Shane

EDIT: Is your system a laptop or a desktop?

Also, it may be worth seeing if a restart makes any difference.

Hi Shane,

I ran out of time the other day and my son would like me to try and make this work again (on Easter). My computer is an ACER AM3900-U4002. It has plenty of everything needed and gets all green checks on set-up. I have mentioned how the game was working fine and then just started displaying the error message when we tried to launch it.

Thinking back, I inadvertantly turned the computer off while he was in the middle of running the game and it hasn't worked since. Could there by a correlation? Thanks for your time.

OK - what I will now advise is to run a disk check.

To do this:

NOTE: This may take a few hours to do, and you will not be able to do anything else with the system once it has started.

1.Go into Computer.
2.Right-click the hard drive where Trainz is installed.
3.Click Properties.
4.Click Tools.
5.Click Check Now.
6.Tick both boxes, then click Start.
7.Click Schedule Disk check when prompted, then restart your system.

The disk check will take place during the restart.

Hi Shane,

Done and no changes. I did download DirectX as you suggested earlier and no luck (also chose it in the display settings). Do you think I should uninstall and reinstall my graphic card driver? I have read in earlier posts that it is a connection problem. Could it be a firewall issue or something? I am asked if I want to allow the connection and I always say yes...I don't remember being asked in the past. Should I try a uninstall/reinstall of the game again?

Thanks!
G

May be worth doing so - remember to turn off your antivirus during the install/patching, and allow the game access to the Internet.

Still no luck. This won't explain why it stopped working BUT, is it possible that my serial number needs more? I thought in the original packaging there was some additional info like a KEY or something.

Is there a customer service/tech support service?

Should I give up and but another game?

Can we talk via the phone or IM?

Thanks!

Hello I am sorry your having problems with your game and ruining your trainz experience. There is support at aurans helpdesk it may take a day or two to replie they have been back logged. No phone number only helpdesk that I know of.

The people side of Beattie:)

If you registered your copy of TS2010, your serial number will be up on Planet Auran. Log in to your Planet Auran website, and view your serial numbers. If it is there, copy the serial number (highlight) and press Ctrl+C to copy.

When prompted for the serial number, on the serial number tab in Trainz options, press Ctrl+V to paste the serial number. This will save typing all the numbers and letters again.

Also if the program was crashed, due to powering off, you may need to do a database repair. Run CMP and choose Quick Database repair under File.

Do not touch the computer while this runs. Let it do its thing. Usually when I am updating, (installing patches), or performing a database repair, I either do this at night and let it do its thing, or I go off and do something else and let it update.

The process can takes some time, so you need to be patient. When shutting down Trainz, wait for at least 5 minutes before turning off your computer. This gives the program's underlying utilities to shutdown completely and close the database prior to turning off your computer.
