Tutorial for laying parallel track several metres apart (example: stations)

I'd really love to know how to create parallel track from a junction so that I can create a station where the platform will be parallel to both tracks. I thought TRS 2006 might make this easier, but there seems to be no obvious way to create "parallel" track to a single or double line where the third or fourth line is at a set distance from the main lines.

I have always struggled with making a parallel branch off a single line or even a two-line track where the third track is parallel to the other two but at a distance which allows me to place a platform between them.

Hopefully I made sense, but if not, let me clarify with diagram.

Code:
 [COLOR=Blue]                          ___________________
            ______________/___________________
_______/__________________________________

Re Parallel Track

How about placing spline pointsts along track 1, then place spline points on track 2 and make them just touch, or -

Place 1 or more tracks between the ones you wish to make parallel (using spline points as above), then when everything looks okay, delete the unwanted tracks, leaving the wanted tracks nice anf parallel.

It works for me!

I understand the above method would work for tracks that already exist. I need a mechanism where I can get the tracks parallel in the first place. That is exactly parallel, and at a specified distance from one another, so that a platform can be laid between them.

I can understand laying double tracks with crossovers, but the problem I want to solve is that there seems no way of specifying the distance gap between them.

Let's say two tracks diverge from a point - from a particular distance apart I want both of them to be exactly parallel running continuously for a distance before converging again.

Search the DLS for "JK Way Gauge" (without the quotes). These handy little thingys from andi06 come in various track centres, but they snap together so that tracks can be laid parallel at pretty much any spacing. They can be rotated, so curved tracks can be parallel at the same spacing. Look for them in Surveyor Objects, not under track....

G'day harishankar,

As well as the 'Way Gauges' suggested by Dermmy, you may want to consider the use of andi06's points/switches (officially known as 'Animated Junctions'), which, if they are rotated to the same angle, will always keep the track laid between them straight and parallel (all at the same distance as specified by the adapters that are used). Another option is to use the built in "fixed Track" lengths of straight track, which can also be 'spaced' using the JK Way gauges and which, I have discovered, will alter their appearance to that of any 'spline' track attached to them (the "useadjoiningtrack" tag is set "1" in their config.txt). For example, I created the following layout using all of the above methods in various different places within the yard as the process decreed...

Thanks a lot everybody.

Glad to know there are easy solutions to this problem.

I was hoping there would be.

By the way, when I open Trainz again, I don't see my route in surveyor at all

How do i get my route back?

Check out the DLS for username BEKAEMBER, kuid 102376. He has a

selection of track spacers covering from two to five tracks, with track

centers up to 12.5 meter. Hope this can help.

Hi,
How do you proceed with bekaember track guide to remove the spacing between two set of rails ? I have TS2009 and i can still see the T of the bekaember's object between 2 tracks ? any idea is welcome ;)

thanks

You can find a 30 meter ruler on the DLS, KUID 45676:23070. It is a scenery object and will permit you to measure spaces very precisely, compared to the "ruler" provided in the tools panel. It acts like any other scenery object, and can be raised or lowered as needed. It will appear on the scenery object panel. The only trick is to be sure you are directly perpendicular above the point of measurement to avoid parallax. Using this tool you can set your tracks 5.3, or 3.9 meters apart, or any other measurement you would like. There are also protractors you can find by searching "protractor" as a title. Very useful for laying out curves.

If you download the track spacers you can line the spacers up overlapping attachment points you can get paralell tracks at any distance you want.

Hello guys,

As I see, there are people, who are using my tools...

The "boxes" won't disappear in driver - it is purposeful.
Won't disappear, because there are million types of tarcks are on dhe dls, and these have million types of mesh (regarding their length). Also, that's why the voxes wont get the shape the connected tracks. And also, I never leave tools on my layout. :)

I would like to show you my method of creating nice looking parralel tracks (maybe it will help you :)):

Signs:
- track
T my tools

1) I create the tracks with my helpers:
T--------------------T--------------------T--------------------T
T--------------------T--------------------T--------------------T
T--------------------T--------------------T--------------------T

2) Then delete the "red parts":
T--------------------T--------------------T--------------------T
T--------------------T--------------------T--------------------T
T--------------------T--------------------T--------------------T

3) Finally, I reconnect the tracks ("green"):
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------

I hope I could help you,

Regards,

Bekaember Krisz ;)

Thank you very much to all for your answers, this is very helpful.
and agree, we should not let tool on a map

There used to be a lot of handy little snap-on track pieces with all sorts of different lengths and radii, but I can't seem to locate them in '09 now. I used them in the same way bekaember uses the tools he made, really: snap a bunch together, then delete one and replace with track of choice. It made making straight and curved tracks so much easier! Am I just not looking in the right place or have they been taken out?

Hello!

The "classic" fixed track elements were removed from TC1/2 and TC3. When I saw that it was no longer available, I made a lot from them. I missed them, and I also love working with them. :hehe: But my development was unnecessary because they are available again in TS2009.
But - for sure - my "classic" fixed track elements are also availabe on the DLS, search for my username (I made more versions than was available as builtin content).

Combine them with my boxes... powerful tools...
