Turntable : How hide/remove unused slots

Turntable has 24 slot positions. I only need 4 on one side, 5 on the opposite side. How can I remove/hide the unused ones? They still show when I go into Driver, even though they have no stubs.

You can clone and modify the turntable, as long as it's not built-in or payware, and add the following option to the config.txt file:

useadjoiningtracktype 1

The 1 indicates true since this is a binary function.

Add this tag added into the config.txt file, outside of any container, this should work fine. A container is anything within the curly brackets { , }

Ensure to keep the same spacing as other tags. The spacing here in the forums is incorrect.

Save and close the config.txt file, and submit the asset. If there are any errors troubleshoot your work.

With the asset updated, you can now attach track in Surveyor, but keep this in mind.

1) Where you want the turntable to have track, attach the track you want to use on the turntable. This will turn the default track, showing on the turntable, to turn to whatever track you attach to the spline point.

2) Where you don't want tracks to show, use an invisible track. This will show in Surveyor, but is invisible in Driver.

Adjust the list of stopping positions to suit. Eg
angle 0,10,20,30,210,215,220,230,240
The detail will depend on what turntable you are referring to.

You could try attaching invisible track to the stubs to hide them. This may or may not work depending on the particular turntable. Which one are you using?

That was my thought by adding in the useajoiningtrack tag. The config needs editing first but it's not terribly difficult. I've done that to a few assets I wanted to change the track on.

The turntable I was using was built-in, so I switched the the 120ft Turntable from DLS and the stub for it. Edited the angle list and all was well. Tried to add the useadjoiningtracktype but gave error that it could not be used with type turntable so I seem to be stuck with stubs that don't match the rest of track. At least I only see and stop at the 9 slots I am using. This has certainly been a learning experience! Now to place a 3 stall roundhouse that reasonably matches the model rr layout I am following.

Having difficulty getting accurate alignment of 120 ft turntable, the turntable stub, the 120 ft roundhouse components, and my track so that I do not get derails. I set rotation to exact multiple of 15 degrees, but things don't accurately click in place. Keep switching from surveyor to adjust, driver to test, back to surveyor adjust again, and so on. Please tell me the secret of how to make it work.

Just decided to delete turntable, stubs, roundhouse modules and start that part over. Still have a set on inner and outer vertex/spline points in circles that I cannot move or delete, also some short segments that look like turntable track where some of the stubs were. How can I delete this stuff?

To delete stuff left over from a fixed track asset use the copy/paste tool in the Tools tab to paste a blank region over the area.

What asset are you modifying? If it works before you make the change it should still work the same after you make the change, except that the spinner does not stop at the deleted angles.

edit/ I just tried it with <kuid2:354694:39001:2> UZ_turntable_A and it works exactly as expected. The mention of stubs suggests you might be using a very old asset that requires some particular setup in order to work correctly. Some old turntables had their attachment points oriented incorrectly, which meant that track attached backwards. Although it looked OK it actually had a twist in the track that derailed trains./edit

The copy paste solved the objects problem. Was using the 120 ft turntable, stub, and roundhouse components. Still having problem getting things to snap in place and not get derailments. The roundhouse components are listed for TS12.

Presently not modifying anything. Using AJS turntable (tried scripted and non-scripted), 120ft roundhouse modules, and the AJS turntable stub. All joints look perfect, but derail going from Tane 1trk wood to the turntable stub. Have tried at 165, 180, and 195 degree positions. Very frustrating! Just edited to correct what I wrote. Using the AJS turntable stub and AJS roundhouse modules. Had previously tried the 120ft roundhouse, turntable, and stub with the same results...derail from track to stub. The red end of stub at the bridge end, the track connected to the outer of the 2 circles at the non-red end of the stub.

Do you mean <kuid2:122285:1500:1> AJS Turntable? That is built-in and can't be modified. In any case it is a very old asset. You would be much better off using something at least build 3.5. It should not require a stub - that will complicate things.

/edit
That turntable will work in T:ane, but you have to construct it carefully.
1. Rotate the stub to the correct angle before attaching it. Use the angle display with the rotation tool to get the exact rotation.
2. Attach the stub at the outer attachment point of the spinner using the stub attachment point closest to the centre, making sure it snaps into position.
3. Attach the track at the attachment point of the stub closest to the end, making sure it snaps into position.
The inner attachment points of the spinner are not used in Surveyor.
You can't edit that asset, so the spinner is still all-stops, but you can choose which stubs to attach.

Have messed with it several times today. Now can get loco onto the spinner, but getting derails coming off in roundhouse. Everything looks all lined up, including 0.0 heights, but still derails! Very frustrated!

Are you sure that each component has snapped into place? You should be able to see a small movement of the circle as it snaps. Do not place it exactly on top: use a directly overhead view and place it slightly to one side so you can see it move as it connects. Do it on a flat surface - you can adjust the surface after all the connections have been proved. If it doesn't snap as it is placed do not attempt to move it - delete it and try again.

After many problems, I finally have 129ft turntable, 3 stalls of roundhouse , and 6 stubs and attached track all properly connected and no derailments! I finally discovered, at least for me, if I moved stubs into place moving from inside of turntable toward the outside (rather than from outside toward inside) they more much more likely to snap into place. This same tactic also worked well for the roundhouse modules. SailorDan, your instruction to delete and try again rather than try to move into snap position was also a key for my eventual success. Thanks to all for your suggestions and help!
