Turnout trouble

Hi,

This strange turn out anomally is only occuring or being persistent in the one
location. The point direction arrow will show one direction but when a loco
moves over the point it takes the opposite road to that which is indicated by
the arrow. This problem has occured in other areas of my route, and usually
on a curved piece of track. In these latter occurences the problem seems to
be rectified by removing the existing turnout track & point motor, and
relaying the same track & motor in the same situation.
However this method of solving the problem has not been successful for this
particular offending turnout. There are no hidden tracks that could be
responsible, the type of track and point motor have all been changed but to
no avail. The turnout is located near the end of a large radius curve,
whether or not that is causing the problem, as I have already mentioned
other irregularities with point directions have all been on curves.
Re situating the point is not an option but unless someone can offer me any
advise as to how to resolve this particular pain in the . . . . then thats
probably my only option thats going to be left.
thanks for your time and any suggestions re this matter.
If its of any consequence I use 2006.

Regards
Ross

The point

Hi guys - I remember a post about this from a long time ago. What had happened was that the two branches (left and right) were crossed and this was very easy to do when laying track on a curve or radius. I believe bill69 supplied the answer but I might be wrong and stand to be corrected.

Can't help further - sorry.

Doug

Hi Guys,

I've had this problem too. Where the turnout splits into two and then becomes main running lines you need to split the spline points immediately after the turnout spline point (where the lever and arrow is) and the track that initially went to the left main running line needs to be re-connected to the right hand main running line and the line that originally went to the right needs to be pulled accross to the left hand running line......This is easier to do than to explain!!

Hope this makes sense?

I had that problem once WAY back when. I finally layed the track straight rather than a curve, put in the turnout, confirmed it worked, then curved the track and connected it.

Hi Ross,

Here is a pic of your trouble, I have exagerated it so it is more visible.

Ha! my feeble memory still works then Bill - that was a problem from the old forum I think...

Doug (how is your route coming along?)

Hi Doug,

My short term memory is probably worse than yours but I did remeber that pic was in my Photobucket album. My route is a bit slow atm, I enjoy changing and adding industries more than texturing and there is an h...l of a lot of texturing to do so I am trying to get into the mood for it.

Cheers,
Bill

Hi Ross

Someone posted this problem a couple of months ago & IIRC the common theme was that this happened if the turnout was near the edge of a couple of baseboards. Don't know why but that's the common theme with my routes as well and has been since UTC at least. It is random though, doesn't happen all the time. I don't recall anyone knowing how to fix it but when it happens to me, I just put a little "rev" at the end of the points name to remind me when setting the points. Hope that helps.

Seems like theres differing theories for rectifing the turnout trouble that I (and others) have had issues with. adadadl seems to have cracked the problem by inserting a spline break at the base of the turnout, I did that to both left and right points , removed the centre or linking piece of track and basically swapped the tracks over as described in adadadl' breif.

Well done that man

Thanks for the acknowledgement.. Its just something I found by trial and error when trying to resolve the problem on one of my routes
