Ts2012 or not.

Hi,

I purchased Ts2010 when it came out last year and now there is Ts2012.
Is there any point to purchasing Ts2012?
From what little I have seen from the adverts there does not appear to be much that is different to Ts2010.
Can the upgrade be justified?

Kinda depends what you're looking for. I ran comparison tests and given the exact same settings, route, trains, location, and camera angles, the FPS performance is identical to TS2010. What's it got that's better FOR ME is a sound volume control setting. Along with a few new bugs. :hehe: For my money it could have easily been TS2010 patch 5 and an addon content pack, it's got a bunch of new routes and trains, none of which are particularly interesting to me. That's why I say it depends what you want, people who are looking for a new Russian or Chinese route might buy TS12 just for that.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.
I think it is difficult enough choosing a Rail Simulator, having chosen one and then find it has been superseded seams to me to be a waste of money.
I have been sent a voucher offering a 20% discount against the purchase of 2012 for which I am grateful, but I will stick with Ts2010 for the time being who knows there may be another update from Auran.

If your interested in UK locos and rolling stock, i wouldn't bother.

Same old same old.

Credit to the ECML route team though.Kings X - Newcastle is a credit to their skill and stamina.

IKB.

It *does* seem to just be a 'showcase' for JR stuff (and I agree, its quality, I'll give credit where its due), and some other routes, but really - I agree, I bought both the 'standard' version of TRS2012 AND the 'collector edition', and there are some things about TRS2012 I do like, but MP isn't one of them, nor the 'built-in' routes, as none of them personally appeal to me - but there is some other things I like, so sure, it was a big outlay of $, I just hope we can soon access the 2009/2010 items from the DLS, so we can start trying to use TRS2012 as more than just a 'show pony' for the built-in routes.

Actually as far as the way TS12 works it seems to me to be far better than 2010, not particularly bothered about the content what it is or what's not there as I mostly am making my own anyway and anything else is easily added. As a route creating platform I don't think it can be beaten. It's pretty good at running routes as well, better in my view than 2010.

Performance is better, stability is good and it's not full of years worth of previously inbuilt stuff that I'm never likely to use, for me that's fine.

Obviously everyone has different views on what is or isn't important and different ways of using Trainz, so you will get those who don't like it or can't see that it's any different, nothing wrong with that, each to their own.

I got it as a gift from the other half. If you like North American content, there is some great SP and SF locomotives in it along with the new signals.

The only downside are the trees and being unable to set Antialiasing to zero. I'm going through Profig's trees and have to say they are great, just lukewarm to them over the billboards. Also, I could get 2009 SP4 to run around 60 FPS by shutting off the aliasing filter. Not so with TS12, 20 FPS average.

Never thought I would say this but 2009 runs better for me. I'm half tempted to open all the 3.1 build content and below for edit and import it into 2009. They finally put some great stuff in it.

I'll plug along with it for a bit though. I usually build my own routes and see what happens. It's more stable than 2009 but without a way to set the aliasing to zero to run routes, it's a no go and a new computer is not on the horizon for a while. Neither will replace 2006 fully, the version I use the most.

You're mileage may vary.

Dave.......
