I can not get good motion or sound. My systems is as follows:
Dell Dimension E521; VISTA Home Premium SP 2; AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.10GHz with 2.00 GB of RAm operating as 32 bit system; Video card is NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE.
Help - my grandson is very disappointed.:'(

I trust you are new to Trainz.
Have you found the detail adjustment sliders yet? Try draw distances all or most of the way to the left.
Make sure no other programs are running.
while disconnected from the internet, turn off your anti virus program(s) and see if that helps.
Try another (lower?) screen resolution.
Use only built in layouts and rolling stock.
Report back.

More of a question than an answer, but how do your computer specs compare with what Auran says are the minimum and the recommended specs for running TS2010?

I'm no guru when it comes to PC specs, but my initial impression was that the chips could be a bit slow, the video card a bit old and the RAM may be not enough given that Vista commandeers so much of it just to run the computer. The system could be a little under strength for the job maybe? I'm sure others with a better knowledge will comment on these aspects.

A final thought: is your hard drive badly fragmented?

I can tell already that the video card (or lack thereof) is the problem. Integrated graphics like the 6150 are the worst possible graphics/video solution for playing Trainz. The processor is a little on the slower side too, but shouldn't be a problem on smaller routes. If your grandson wants to play Trainz decently, you/he will need to upgrade the graphics to something like an ATI Radeon HD 5570 or nVidia GeForce GT220 at least to get decent performance.

I can see the problem(s) straight off.

Your graphics card is at least 4 or 5 years old (maybe more), and the one you have was the entry level card of the 6 series.
You really need to invest in a new card.
It really doesn't come anywhere near the minimum requirements for TS2010.

If you don't want to upgrade your motherboard to run PCI-E, you can probably still pick up a decent AGP card for very little money.

You could probably do with a couple more gig memory too.

Smiley.

The Dell Dimension E521 has a PCI-Express x16 slot (I know, I had the C521 - the compact version of it). But the point remains. A new graphics card is in order...

Hi,

For comparison, I'm running TS 2010 with an Athlon X2 4200 (dual core), 2Gb RAM, Win Xp (Sp3) and nVidia 6600 GT Card (AGP).

The only problems I have are where there are lots of the new Speedtreez on some routes...

Suggestion (and please feel free to ignore them if you've though of these):-

1) Does your virus checker inspect all files you use (mine does by default) - add the TS 2010 folder to "trusted files" (or similar) so that none of the files are checked as they load (Trainz loads lots of files as you go through the route).

2) Update the graphics card drivers (check version you have) - the later drivers are better siuted to TS 2009 & 2010 (the graphics card can share some of the work).

As the others have noted, the graphics card is probably your weak spot..

HTH

If you do have PCI-Express, I highly recomend what I have, an NVidea GT220. They go for ~$70 USD. Still, I am not sure the video card is at the heart of your current problem, but, If you got $70, why not? They use very little power, no external power connector. They probably work well with a 300 Watt supply, certainly with a 350 Watt supply.

Yes that is what I bought for my HP which has a 300 watt power supply. Mine is from EVGA and has the DDR3 ram.

These cards work with 300 watt power supplies. I went from a continuous jerky movement to very smooth train movement. From 8 - 16 FPS to 28 - 60 FPS. Not very expensive either.
