Could some one, possibly helpdesk, send out an email when Auran have their act together and it is possible to download it.

Thanks John

For what it's worth, I was able to download setup-1a, 1b, and 1c from the links to the alternative server they set up on my order page. Setup.exe and setup-2a.bin are still linked to the original links So you might be sure to check there for new links.

These three with updated links came at 1.5 MB/s, which means they were able to max out my connection, so I'm bewildered as to why the other server is still giving me no link for the setup.exe and setup-2a.bin files. Seems the demand is still all on that side, but it does seem there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Hi John
We are currently mirroring the files to a second server to help speed up the downloads. This should improve the issues with the download links being unavailable.

You may want to try choosing them in an order other than that listed, as some of the files are currently available on the second server.

If you are still having trouble, please send as a ticket on the helpdesk, so that we can investigate further.
Thank you

If your DL starts, then hangs, try pressing the pause button in your DL manager and then resume. This worked a lot of times for me with Firefox.
It's almost as though you have to wake up the server.

Thanks,

I'll leave it a week or two until the dust settles and try again.

My Experience, not all that bad!

Tell you what, reading all the messages here led me to believe that downloading 2010 EE was going to be a total nightmare!

Well, I did have an actual issue of not having the right download info, I put in a ticket, got a response in just a few hours (Folks, thats about 20 times better than my average submit a ticket expereince with any other company) and was able to download the files over night without incident (also better than my average expereince with many big time game company downloads and download managers).

I agree that the release being late was a bit concerning, however these guys look like they really worked hard, made the right decisions, and are responding very appropriately and quickly to concerns.

With all the bashing going on, me being a very brand new customer to Auran, I just thought I would share that my expereince despite all still rates better than most!

Well, I have to decide now where to install the bad boy, then I'll start to dig in and see what its all about!

Any advice for the newbie here would be appreciated. If anyone has written a how to get started or have various types of fun in Trainz and could point me there, I'd appreciate it. I used to play around with the MS product some years ago, and only bought 2009 a few weeks ago before upgrading to 2010.

I have done a few of the intro runs as a driver, found that kinda fun!

I'd also be interested in a list of cool things to do in trainz, like off the beaten path or little known cool things to see or do!

It's very gentle bashing and Auran do respond by putting up more servers etc. There is something strange called the Trainz Community probably brought about by John ? I'm hopeless on names, who did a PhD based on the Trainz forum. Auran is a fairly small company who realised fairly early on that many of the community where prepared to put in the many hours of work required in order to create the models so they made it possible to create them in free software.

Today Auran basically make the game engine and commission some assets. If you have a browse over in Trainzdev you'll see some very knowledgeable users and the developers in conversation as things get teased out. Probably the most important part of TS2010 came out of the thread in Trainzdev "TRS2009 native mode Trees" its quite a long thread but you can see the interaction and how the community attempted to work round a problem of native mode trees display. You may also notice the Blender exporter which is a joint effort between Auran who built the XML importer and the community who built the python scripts for the exporter.

The downside of the community is some assets on the DLS are not as good as others but some such as Whitepass's boxcar are superb. The S&C add on (TC3 for TS2009 /TS2010 ) has some very good UK stock, practically all made by the community. Trainzproroutes is well worth a visit, you might like to have a browse at http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz. Highly recommended is the Murchison add on. Sounds like I'm pushing the payware side doesn't it. The DLS does contain many treasures, UK GWR broad gauge for example, Paulhobbs and vinnybarb are two top notch creators to look for and I'm certain you'll stumble across more in time.

Be aware that TC3 brought updates to the steam loco side of things so steam locos created for TRS2004 or TRS2006 need to be updated to get the best out of them. The creations themselves are fairly easy to update in the config.txt file, you can add new products to be carried, switch engine specs to more realistic ones etc. Trainz is very flexible and open ended, in TS2009 or TS2010 you can switch every example of a tree to one of the newer trees that display better in native mode. Unfortunately one downside is it takes time to create, a detailed steam loco can take a year or so, it takes time for the content creators to change their way of doing things so although TS2009 has been available for a year its only now that we are beginning to see assets from the community that have been created with TS2009 in mind, using bigger textures etc and these can be difficult to pick out as they aren't always labeled TS2009.

Anyway welcome to Trainz and I hope you enjoy your time with us.
