TS2010. Don't knock it before you try it !!!

Spotter...
Come on guys & gals, TS2010 hasn't even been released yet, so please don't knock it until you have atleast tried it. If after you have purchased it (& tried it) then, if your not happy, you have the right to bitch & belly ache if you want too...
In the meantime, some people in the forum are getting really sick of the same old Auran basher's, bashing Auran again about their latest product, before it has even been launched.

Now will 2010 have some bugs, highly probable. Will 2010 eventually need some patching or a SP1,- highly probable. - Is that going to stop me from buying it? No...
Why, because it's no different than any other new game that's been released over the last 10 - 15 years. They all have had a few bugs in them, & have needed patches/service pack/s... Ask any hardcore gamer!!!

So please give Auran a break. Give them some time to sort things out. Don't keep whining about a release date that has been put back. (& might be put back even further).
They are trying to sort out a known problem before it's released, not after. - http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=48201
Ok, so some of us have already pre-paid for it. (big deal, so we've missed out on $1.49 in interest)!!! :o
What's a few weeks delay in the big picture?
Happy Trainzing...
Cheers, Mac... :p

thanks

thanks, this is a nice post. by the way, the mention on the current delay put it that 'on 32bit systems' a memory problem might occur -- it's naive of me, but does this suggest that the app might access 64bit memory space?

************* Running a standard 32-bit app/game on your 64-bit OS will still limit you to 2 GB of virtual address space - most game titles are still 32bit only. *************
This is a bit heavy going , but worth a look... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/64-bit-vista-gaming,2250-7.html - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/64-bit-vista-gaming,2250-2.html (about 10-15 pages)... Also worth a read; - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(VS.85).aspx

I would love to know where you're putting your money so that you can get that amount of interest on $49.95 in just over a week?!;)
Local bookmaker. Race 4 - Horse numbers 7 - $1 each way... :hehe:

You can compile a 32-bit application to access up to 8gb on 64bit systems.

However, if the problem is a memory leak rather than excessive memory use then it doesn't matter what the upper memory limit is - a leaking application will eventually reach the limit. It'll just take longer.

So, don't worry guys

we are in the prehistory of the railroad simulation, you go in the future version of Trainz will be special with features you imagine not even in dreams, like Trainz, I'll even change the PC to a powerful and roads still do my best, Trainz is a wonderful tool and the future promises even beautiful things, addons are getting better, have you seen what the trainzers countries of Europe? is simply extraordinary alos have paciente quietly as large adults cheers

I preordered 2010 in the hope that it would be more stable than TRS2009 and no I haven't tried that but have read forum posts that indicate to me that its very much an unfinished product. Easy enough to say don't knock it until you've tried it, but having registered it fairly difficult to send it back for a refund.
Probably hard enough to get a refund out of Auran anyway. I have Trainz from UTC-TC3, and only have TRS2004 and TC3 installed because they work very well. TRS2006 didn't work well for me. Maybe shouldn't say that might sound like an Auran basher. Pointing out the obvious flaws in TRS2006 usually gets the response "works for me, no software is perfect, blah blah.."
Sure I'll try 2010 and give it a fair go, but if it's crap I'll say so, just like TRS2006 is crap.

I am looking forward to the release of Trainz 2010, especially with the inclusion of the E.C.M.L route. In the past, each Trainz released has had something good about them, and on the odd occasion an odd problem which I have been thankful to you guy's on this forum for helping me with...

I believe Trainz 2010 is the start of great things, and I'm grateful to the Auran team for there valuable help on the forum and there great products. If it wasn't for Auran, there probably wouldn't be any trainz programs and no great forums like this one...

I don't like the Auran bashing that happens sometimes on here, the good thing is it's very rare, we have to be thankful to Auran as it was them who brought us together to help each other out...

keep up the great work Auran team, and thank you trainz forum family for your valuable time and friendship...

As the testers traditionally keep quiet, I wonder who is the source of these posts?

My personal opinion ,

This is a very premature thread by the OP !
And can only start a flaming situation this early in the release , which has not yet happened !

Mac , why start another thread like this , when it has not yet been released ? Simply post your thoughts in an already started , most likely , negative thread ?

The Forum is becoming more difficult for me to understand .
I know why Ed left ?

yes, i'd been checking the web, but i was kind of hoping, just because of the way the announcement was worded, that trainz 10 might address more than the 2GB limit...? thought it was maybe an inadvertent reference to an internal project.

I guess I need to go out and get some popcorn to cook up in the flames.:)

He lives in Queensland.... maybe in Brisbane and close to the Auran office and he taps the phone lines?:)

Have fun,:)

One could just as easily advise others...

to not support it until they have tried it!

In the end it won't make a difference anyway.
There are always going to be fanboys, and there are always going to be trolls, so let them harmlessly express their opinions and don't trouble yourself on Auran's behalf. They can take it.:hehe:

The tread was to try and reduce the number of so called "know all knockers" that usually knock the cr_p out of Auran at every opportunity. Particularly about their latest product before it has even been launched.
The comments weren't designed to inflame anyone. They were more to "give notice" that some of the community have had a tummy full of "the constant knockers" putting Auran down all the time. (the doom & gloom artists)...

Auran isn't perfect, far from it. No gaming software development company is... delays, bugs, patches, service packs, it's all "par for the course" in the gaming software industry... (In fact, the software industry in general). MS, monthly patches, SP1/SP2/SP3 etc, is a prime example...
Nothing has changed in 15+ years, and the industries not going to change in the next 15+ years. That's just life. If anyone doesn't like it on the merry-go-round, please jump off.

DLR, these comments aren't directed at you personally.
I personal don't care whether people love or hate Auran. Atleast they are still in business, spending vast amounts of money (& resources), to continue improving & developing our beloved "Trainz's". (which is more than I can say for MS)... Like most companies, they are learning from there mistakes...
Your right, assuming there are beta testers of 2010 outside Auran, they are certainly keeping quite. That's what they would have agreed to do under a signed non-discloser agreement.

So in plain simple English, "knockers" please; Order, wait (or wait, order), buy, receive, install, run !!! Then, and only then, can one make informed comments about TS2010 !!!
Looking forward to reading those informed comments. (good or bad)...
Cheers, Mac... ;)

I'll be buying the boxed version ( I sort of like getting a box and manual hehe) Warts and all, I am sure its going to be great. Like the OP said, All games/simulators etc come with bugs and issues. Part of gaming isn't it?

I myself are looking forward to Trainz 2010.

Cheers

Running a standard 32-bit app/game on your 64-bit OS will still limit you to 2 GB of virtual address space - most game titles are still 32bit only.

This isn't quite right. The theoretical limit is 4GB for a 32-bit process. In practical terms, 32-bit Windows will give you about 1.5GB per process under default configuration and 64-bit Windows will give you around 3GB per process.

This means that we're having no trouble at all on the 64-bit machines, but we're running right up against the limits on the 32-bit machines (and some times going a bit over, hence the delayed release date.)

cheers,

chris
