TS2006 Layout in TS2009

How can I get a layout that I started in Trainz 2006 into Trainz 2009? I spent a lot of time doing DEM work and elevations to match my home town and I would prefer to not have to start over....:)

Thanks......Dan

There should be no problems with bringing your existing route, into TRS2009. Some minor niggles with content may still exist (which can be replaced), but on the whole, there shouldn't be a problem. I've got the beta and have successfully imported old routes into TRS2009, with minimal problems, and over 20+ gig of content as well.

Dan,

the Beta imports 2006 routes ok, just be careful if you use "built-in" assets - or ones which are no longer on the DLS.

Obviously, your route won't take advantage of the 2009 features (i.e. 5 m grid) unless you update it in 2009 (and then it won't load in 2006).

On the other hand, 2009 is smoother than 2006 - even with the same routes.

Step-by-Step Help Needed

Thank you ...... that's good to know. Now, the newbie type question.....:confused:
how do I do this...? Are there files and/or folders that I have to copy from my 2006 directory into the 2009 directory......or do I use CMP...??

Thanks......Dan

I seem to have read elsewhere there are issues with the Blue Sky Interactive German items which were in a couple of the TRS2006 demo routes.

IMHO, particularly as the assets are now getting on for four years old, Auran need to negotiate a release with Protrain/BSI to get them unlocked for general use. You can put them in freeware routes within TRS2006 quite readily and of course that's the issue as many of the items are very useful as generic fillers or background scenery (the industries, warehouses and commercial buildings even some of the stations).

As a route contributor to TRS2004, I'm certain I signed over the rights to Auran to do as they wished with the content and surely BSI ought to have been subject to a similar clause.

On that topic I was rather surprised to see Glasgow to Falkirk lurking in the 009 beta. That was my earliest TRS route and even less polished than my somewhat maligned Stranraer route. Even more surprised as offers on the Devnet to put together a new route in TRS2006 for inclusion in TS2009 were (politely) snubbed as it wouldn't be up to TS2009 standards! Certain irony then that an old rough TRS2004 route is okay but a new route to a higher standard was not!

Well, three things surprise me there!

Glasgow-Falkirk does not surprise me, for that route hasn't really dated. It could, by now, do with a bit of embellishment, but it's still an enjoyable, driveable, realistic layout - especially if you place the AJS passenger enabled stations and place a couple of portals at the Falkirk end and generate a bit of AI traffic.

"Much-maligned" Stranraer route indeed! Not that many people maligned it - I still run it now, only its part of a long merged route!

Why Devnet spurned your offer of a new route is pretty baffling! Just hope it doesn't put you off route building and that your creations find their way for the rest of us to download!

All the very best to you Vern!

Well it certainly puzzled me...but c'est la vie. I don't enjoy working to deadlines and these days prefer to plod along at my own pace but it would have been nice to offer up a new creation.

I'm currently finishing off a short project for KRS and once that's out the way I'll be returning 100% to TRS. Got a few ideas floating in my head and still have the beginnings of the Canadian route I started in TRS2006 before the KRS "distraction".

I'm looking forward to seeing what TS2009 has to offer in the way of improvements for route building, even if as a temporary measure the Transdem import still has to be done via TRS2006.

Nobody answered the OP's question, how do you get TRS2006 routes/sessions into TRS2009?

I also have a route/session I've been doing and have spent a lot of work on in TRS2006, how do I get it into TRS2009?

Thanks

Here is the excert from the how-to that I found on the main page within Trainz 2009;

To install your custom (downloaded) content from TRS2006 follow these simple steps:

* Open Content Manager V2.0 (TS2009 Launcher > Content)
* Navigate to your TRS2006 “Local” Folder (c:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2006\Local)
* Highlight 100 or so items (L-Click on the first item, hold Shift, scroll down the list and L-Click on another item)
* L-Click and drag the items from the TRS2006 Local Folder onto the main window in CM2.
* A dialog will pop up saying “Installing Content”
* Possibly another window will pop up asking “Overwrite All” or “Skip All”. In most cases you should choose Skip.
* The items will be installed automatically one after the other.
* A Task Complete dialog will open when complete listing any errors or warnings (e.g. listing that items have been skipped).

There is one issue with TS2006 layout in TS2009.
If the route was created with Transdem Trainz Edition, and you have laid out UTM tiles onto the route, you will not be able to add new tiles to the route in TS2009.
When I attempted to do this, Transdem generated the following error:

Errors writing file "[UTM Overlay Objects]"
Error reading .gnd file header section

I have to see if there is a fix for this, but in the mean time I recommend getting all the UTM tiles exported into TS2006 before you do the conversion to TS2009.

Yes, you cannot currently add UTM tiles to a TransDEM created route at a later stage, after it has been imported into TS2009. Hopefully the problem will be solved once TransDEM has become compatible with the new ground file format.

I also understand that there are special issues if it was generated using HOG, and that special procedures must be followed to avoid terrain distortions. There was a discussion of this in the TRS2009 forum.
