TS 12 NEWBIE

Clancy2012

Rail Rider
Hi Folks, I am new to TS12 having just bough it in the last few days. I am disappointed with the amount of sessions / scenarios on the DS for 12, that are not finished, ie, tracks running into ditches, coal stacks with crumpled roads running through them, and lots of scenarios with invalid content on the station. Can anyone recommend an actual session / scenario that is complete, known to have functioning industries etc, and secondly where would I start to build my own sessions, anyone guides out there? I hope I don't seem critical, but after shelling out for the game, you expect some add-ons to be complete before being hosted on the DS.

Well, I cannot help with finding any sessions on DLS that are complete, as I dont have any, But I can help with making your own sessions... On the specific route you want, go into the sessions section, and click on create session, this will take you to surveyor, from there you will select the trains you want to put in the session and place them on the tracks, then before leaving, press the save button so this will save the session from there its play and have fun

Hi Chris, thanks, I knew how to strip an existing session, but when creating your own version, how do you remove the crap from it, add new industries and make them active, or make existing industries active?
thanks mate!

In surveyor, there is a buildings tab, click on that, then when you click on a specific random building it shows up down below on a preview page, there is a red X button next to the preveiw page, That is the delete button, Click on the building or scenery you wish to delete, Now for adding active industries, first you must find an industry that has a Green checkmark and IND on the preveiw page, if it does not have that, It is not an active industry, there are many many more active indusrties on DLS, to add the building or scenery to the route, click the + button, then click to add the building wherever you want it... Next there is an rotating arrow button, that button rotates the building, Just hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse..

Check the DLS for author "philskene"; he is one of the few that made sessions for his routes.
I can also suggest the "Fingal Line" by "Pware" with 3 sessions.
I know it is bad to suggest your own stuff and I know it is far from the most beautiful thing ever created, but I know this route + 2 sessions are also complete and tested.

Thanks mate! I will certainly give those a spin! I have a high end pc so no its not that, which is at fault - cam across another interesting scene tonight with train tracks running into an embankment, no portal just end of the line, it had roads coming out of the sea at the harbour, and more roads going up and down coal stacks with traffic on them like something out of monster truck, diving into the air, and yet a total of 6 segments of this are on DS, with hundreds of assets on it to download, I did get them all but it was a waste of time. TS12 certainly did not ship with much for the non multiplayer fan. I will take a shot at doing some tidy up on these, seems someone took an awful lot of time with these and must have completely missed these kind of irritations.

Check for missing dependences, sometimes Content manager doesn't get them all on the first go so re-download the route and it should pick up anything on the DLS, it missed first time. However some routes have dependencies that are not on the DLS but "some other site somewhere" and that's where the fun starts, tracking them down, helpful people put something in the description as to where to find them, however a lot don't, if you get stuck and can't find them via Google ask on here, we've all been through it! ;o)

Someone mentioned my name?

Hi Clancy --

I see that you hail from Ireland, but are you interested in North American routes and sessions?

If so, as mentioned in an earlier post, search for routes and sessions with "philskene" as the author. Make sure:

  1. You get the ones marked TS12.
  2. You use Content Manager to get all the dependencies from the Download Station. If you need help with this just ask.
  3. You read the text under the thumbnail. This will provide details of your tasks and, in a few cases where an external download is needed, a link to the site.
  4. You print out any maps. Again, if you need help, just ask.

I have made video montages of some of the sessions. See for example here (best viewed full screen and HD):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03OEoD2T3Sg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwgEXJB6MZ0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYcD4uQ34rg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnCCLhuhh38

The videos should show you the "flavour" of the sessions and you can then decide whether you are interested or not.

Tell me if this helps.

Hi and Phil, thanks for the pointers, I downloaded so much and am having a blast with your recommendations. I love the North American routes, purely for the fab scenery and realism within. I have even managed to get some steamers out on a few test routes! Would post pics but dont see an option to do that here!

Hi Clancy.
You really need to watch what you are downloading lately as there has been an awful lot of children uploading pure crap to the DLS. One youngster alone uploaded over half a dozen near blank baseboards with just rubbish on them called Test this or Test the other. N3V really should keep an eye on whats going up there.
There are also a lot of very good routes and sessions buried amongst the garbage, it just helps to know what and who to look for. What are your particular interests in Trainz?
Tell us what you like and we'll point you in the right direction.

Hi Deano, thanks for the tip re uploads. I saw that but also I think there is a glitch in the DS for 2012. I created a a session called "Clinch-field test". I never uploaded it, but TS12 listed it, and was flagging it for discrepancies when I searched the DS for ts12 downloadable sessions. I deleted it immediately, but never intentionally uploaded it either, the software seems to have done that itself.

I like industry hauling routes / scenarios, where I can use steam and diesel, where all industries are active and dependent on each other. I usually spend 4 hours or more on a Saturday evening - it is my escape at the end of a hard week, and I love the planning side of things, kind of a carry over from my job i guess. I absolutely hate downloading so called finished routes where you have active industries that are undeliverable to any endpoint. Just my pet hate i suppose.
