Trucks in Regions

captainkman

You are reading this.
I have a static articulated truck and trailer that I have downloaded from the DLS. I was wondering if I could make them into one asset that could be used as traffic on a region?

What I mean is, if I put them seperately on the region there would be cab units with no trailers, and trailers with no cab units. So is there a wat to make them so that the cab always appears with the trailer?

Any help would be appreciated!

That's the sort of thing that PEV's Attachment Maker is made for. I think the steps would be:
Open the truck kuid and make an attachment mesh with an attachment point (a.new) to hook the trailer to.
You might have to convert the trailer from scenery to kind mesh, then add new attachment mesh to the mesh-table in the truck's config.txt file also add the trailer as an att to a.new in the mesh-table. Maybe PEV or someone experienced in doing this sort of thing could help you with this.

Hi There.
Speaking as someone who worked in the British road haulage industry for almost all of his working life, it is not unusual these days for the Arctic unit to be disconnected from the trailer when they are being loaded or unloaded.

This is done for health and safety reasons to stop anybody climbing up into the cab and driving off while there may be people and/or forklifts etc inside the trailer carrying out the loading or unloading.

Therefore if you had a road transport depot alongside your track it would look quite realistic to have the units disconnected from the trailers while they were in the depot on the loading bays or even standing in the yard.

just thought this information might be useful and save you a lot of trouble trying to get the units and trailers connected.

All the best
Bill

Thanks, the cabs are fine, but (I shuld have mentioned this eariler) I would like the trailers to be tanker trailers. I am trying to make the truck from Duel. I found a truck, <kuid:266204:29007>, called Semi-Truck w tanker trailer. That might have to do for now.

Thanks anyway!

If you find a truck and a tanker trailer that you like, post the kuid numbers and I'll show you how to attach the trailer to the truck to become a single object for scenery or use on roads.

Since you don't let us know what country you are in or what country you are modeling there could be quite a few answers to this question, but basically you just use black or dark grey at about 15 - 20% opacity. If in Aussie you could also use a reddish brown with the opacity cut down.

Cheers,

He did say, it just wasn't clear if you didn't catch the reference.

He wants the tanker truck from the movie "Duel", which according to the below link (includes images), would be a 1955 Peterbilt 351/281

Another Link, Apparently the truck used in the movie has been preserved:

This is the closest truck I could find. If anyone knows of a closer one to the one in Duel, please tell me what/where it is.

How about this?

And an even closer one: AC MWM Autocar DCV7264T Semi Tractor

And a closer trailer: semi-remorque citerne deux essieux pinardier

The FLying A tractor-trailer is the result of connecting the trailers mesh to the mesh of the truck using a third mesh created with PEV's Attachment Maker. It's a great tool for adding attachment points to existing meshes and that's easy to use.

Where can I find and how do I use this attachment maker?
