Hello

You need uninstall Trainz from add/remove programs from control panel before you can re-install.

Once you have uninstalled Trainz and rebooted your PC it is handy to use a registry cleaner to remove any remaining entries for Trainz in the Windows Registry, try CCleaner: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ and then reinstall Trainz.

Hi I think I may have the answer for you with your error. The error breaks down into two parts. 504:0X80029c4a. The 504 part is a time-out code after a given number of attempts have been made to access the file in question. The rest of the code is a known issue and I have copied here something from the internet to assist you.

0x80029c4a Error is a common Windows error message. 0x80029c4a Error is usually caused by a bad device drivers, missing system files, wrong system settings or a corrupted registry file. First, reboot your computer to insure the error is not temporary. If the error returns you will need to run a registry scan to check for registry errors & other system problems. 89% of the time this will fix the cause of the error.

Perhaps that helps and you do not feel like your PC is about to self-destruct any more? There are a few methods for fixing this. Ashan is correct but you need to go a bit further into things. I would suggest:

Un-install all trainz bits and pieces. (if you have done a backup then consider that you may have exported the problem with the backup. It will simply re-install itself when you copy it all back again.

De-frag the hard drive. You do not say how old your drive is but consider it may have bad sectors for example. When the de-frag is complete re-boot the system.

Now run again the registry cleaner and delete any problems it finds. You should have the option to back up the registry before deleting and you should do that. There should also be an option to defrag the registry using the registry cleaner. Because you have de-fragged the drive does not mean that the registry has been cleaned also. A common misconception.

When the registry has been de-fragged it will (or should) advise you that you need to re-boot. Okay, do that.

Your drive will now be as clean and tidy as it can be. There are a number of repair tools available on the internet and I got the info I pasted here from www.pcerror.info

It should now be possible to re-install trainz. That is all I can do from here. Hope this help to either fix it or understand the problem better. Also consider that your CD/DVD drive optic is a bit tired with age and cannot read the disk properly.

Best of luck
Doug
