TRS2006

Hi

I have TRS2006 with the SP1 and I am finding it a bit of a problem. Every time I down load from the Download station there are faults being raised by CMP! eg;--- Tags, mesh, tga and missing files!
My latest download, a route, SVR ( kuid:220524:141 ) has these problems and I don't know how or what to do about them?
I have noted that the downloads I am attempting to put into TRS2006 are designed for TRS2004.
There doesn't appear to be a great deal of content for TRS2006 in the areas that I am looking.
Perhaps the community could advise me what I should do. I am thinking of purchasing TRS2004 and not bothering with 2006 as there is more on offer for 2004!
I am grateful to the community for thier advice.

Mick

TRS2004 stuff will work in TRS2006, you'll just need to fix the errors.

You can get a CMP and Error fixing guide from here: http://www.rail-sim.co.uk/content.htm

There are also fixed versions and a database of fixes at the Trainz Asset Repair Library. (Can't remember the URL, sorry)

Id just like to rephrase that
stuff will work in TRS2006, you'll may wish to fix the errors, but it is entirly optional. Auran changed the format in 06 to keep the files as small as possable. This is what is causeing the errors. But only fix the errors if you are a rivet counter and a com boffin. Having said that you may notice some things wrong like white wheels. This is caused by the black texture not being square. The texture can be resized with many art programs. It's finding the ofending texture that's dificult

Hi Mike

I have looked at the "Guide to Error Fixing Assetsfor TRS2006". The tags look easy enough to put right but the Textures and Mesh errors are something else. Is there an upto date tutorial on fixing textures and mesh. I am no programmer and have no knowledge or understanding of these topics.

Hi Win
Sadly, I am not a programmer, rivet counter or com boffin I am affraid.
I can understand creators not wanting to update thier files for TRS2006, it is a bit of an undertaking when TRS2004 is well established. This is why I am thinking of TRS2004 as a better buy.
Advice on this is appreciated.

The guides are being updated soon hopefully. Where do you think it can be improved?

In the meantime, which particular errors are you not sure about?

They did? That's news to me.

The errors are because TRS2004 ignored a lot of the errors, '06 on the other hand, tells you about them.

Yes, you don't have to fix the errors but, if you don't some stuff won't work, you may experience strange things happening, performance slow downs, and maybe the odd crash. It is personal choice though.

Mike,

To answer your first question:- the easy way by the authors putting the files right for use in TRS2006 a bit of a job I would say and not really expected!
A lot of new comers to TRS2006 are going to look for add-ons to the program. Being these add-ons are only obtainable through the CMP all "Errors" will be highlighted.
As I have already mentioned above "Tags" are ok to put right but Mesh and .Tga files are a different can of worms. Missing files do not help matters either.
I have read the "Guide" but more detail of the procedures of cleaning up "Errors would help newbies like myself.

Mike

OK, tell us what errors you need help fixing and we'll see what we can do.

You'll need to be a bit more specific than ".tga errors" though.

Mike.

As for the errora in 06 they are there in 04 as well. It's just that 04 dose not care about them. To make 06 also not care about them. Start 06, on the blue screen click options. Go to advanced options and click suppress asset warnings in trainz. Go into manage content, wait for it to update. Click File Settings Misilianious then make sure there is a tick in suppress asset warnings in trainz.

I fixed all the errors and na that caused more greif than it fixed

As to the TGA file errors. This is in my experaince caused by the textures (pictures) not being square. I fave a good little freeware program that will view these and let me resize them into square pictures. This has fixed most of the visual errors in 06 for me.

if you want that software drop me a private message and i'll email it to you

Although 04 is good and stable. 06 has more to offer out of the box, I like them both but just use 06. It is faster to load when you have alot of content

Most .tga errors are due the creator not saving them in sizes that are a power of 2, or are saved in compressed format. They don't need to be square, 128X64 is fine.

Here's what I'd do. No doubt others would do different.

All the ones which say "Error: Could not load texture": find the texturename.texture.txt file and delete it. Most of the time this will have the same name as the .bmp or .tga file it can't find. You may have to open some of them to see which image file it is referring to. If you want to make sure that the file is in fact not required create a file of that name that is a 16x16 pixel in a bright colour (pink for example) and then look at the item in Trainz. If there is no pink on the model then you can safely delete the texture.txt file.

For "Error: The primary and alpha texture are not the same size" Open the files that are listed in the texture.txt file and make them the same size.

For "Error: Attachment point 'attachment' in 'smoke5' must be found in mesh" open the config.txt file and remove the section which references that attachment point

"Warning: Progressive meshes are no longer supported by CCP." Ignore it, when the errors are fixed it will go away. This goes for all the warnings, if you fix the errors the warnings will be ignored.

Thank you for your advice, not sure about what I am doing here.
I will try and carry this out. Will let you know how I got on.

Hi Norm

Thank you for your help. I have this minute sent an Email to "Railwaves".
I will try out your suggestions for the remaining errors.

Many thanks

Hi Norm
I have contacting www.railwaves.com.
The reply I had was that the Kuid's in question are "Commercial" items.
Raiwaves also think that they, the Kuid numbers, refer to coaches?
Where I go to from here I am not sure.
These Kuids are showing as missing unknown so I have to ask the question are they really needed for SVR??
Can I run SVR without these and how can I delete them from the Route??

Mick

Probably not needed. Rolling stock shouldn't show up in the dependencies for a route, but some 04 routes I have call for them in the kuid table. To delete any missing assets, in Surveyor click on the actual menu, to the left of the Driver icon and scroll down to delete missing assets. When you save the route, it will now be modified with a small c beside it in both Driver and Surveyor screens.
