If your plan is to move all your 2006 routes and assets to 2009, I would advise against it. 2009 wasn't designed for old content. There's a compatibility option built into it that allows you to run old stuff, but for the most part it runs worse, and slower, and looks pretty bad, especially trees.

2009 was built to run all newly designed routes with new assets, new rolling stock, new engines, new scenery and new trees - in other words - new everything.

Unless you want more headaches and disappointments than you now have, stay with 2006. Someday 2009 might be a great Trainz sim, but right now it's not ready for prime time.

Some folks have been pleased with their conversions to 2009, but they are a rarity from what I've read. But unless the advantage in some way is extreme (and right now it isn't) why bother? Stay with 2006 where everything runs just fine, and wait patiently for some creators to come up with new routes and new assets. It'll no doubt be a long wait.

I also recommend staying put with 2006. I have both, and have transferred the 06 content into 09 and the results are worse than when I transferred the 06 content into TC, and far worse than when I transferred the 04 content into 06. I'm thinking of just staying with 06, although sometimes I yearn for the simplicity of UTC.

IMHO 2009 may be the SIM of choice somewhere around 2014, (when someone has made some trees for it), but right now its circling the bowl!

Adding to what Euphod has just posted:

The biggest problem is trees. Right now we have thousands of trees, tree splines, bushes and splines, grasses and splines - the choices are dizzying.

In 2009 we have ONE tree made specifically for 2009. It's generic, has no name, and appears to be of the "American Bastard" variety. Here it is:

Can't do much in the way of creativity with that!

Judging by all reports at this early stage of its development TRS2009 will give you more problems than TRS2006.

If you want less problems, consider purchasing TRS2004 which should be obtainable for around five GB pounds. One of its major advantages is that it doesn't have the dreaded CMP.

2006 to 2009

So I'm not the only one with problems! I thought after reading the pre launch chat that 2006 was fully compatible with 2009. Twice now I have loaded 2009, and then loaded my 2006 content, this takes hours (obviously depending on the amount of content you have) each time with the same result. dozens and dozens of texture faults in CMP, and when 2006 routes are activated in surveyor, you wait.........and wait..............NOTHING! One of my small layouts I did manage to load, but it didn't run any better than in 2006. I'm running on XP, a friend of mine has transfered his 2006 to 2009 so it can be done, but he is on VISTA, maybe I have a fault in my 2006 content that is fouling up the transfer to 2009? Any ideas anyone? All very dissapointing, and I'm certainly not going to start my layout again in 2009, it would take me a year!

Still, never mind a!

I downloaded 2009 the day is was made available and after finding the instructions on how to import all of my stuff from 2006, I have been extremely happy with 2009. Sure, there are issues that need to be addressed, but to stay away because of these minor issues is ridiculous.

I run Trainz before I go to work, I run trains at work and I run Trainz as soon as I get home from work.

Spend some time reading the posts here on 2009. Auran has said (although not too loudly) that it's not for running old stuff. It's for running all new stuff.

You might as well stop fighting it, and yourself, and just let 2009 sit, or de-install it. It won't be worth anthing until, as Euphod has stated, 2014. I'll go out on a limb and say it will be by late 2013! :hehe:

I just love this tree!

Perhaps 2014 was a bit harsh, seeing how a creator has already started making trees for 2009.

Others may laud 2009 and claim critics are ridiculous, and that's fine because we all are entitled to our opinions.

As far as my opinion goes; the improvements are too few to get my endorsement.

Gosh after studying that tree of yours, I just must try another installation (number three) seriously though the truth most likely is as previously stated, Trainz 2009 is made for 2009. Although you can upload 2006 material it would appear that it is not always entirely straight forward. I am the first to admit that I am not a particularly dab hand on a computer, so maybe my graphics card or processor is lacking. I shall be looking into this anyway. When running my main layout, which is 150 odd boards, with tons of scenery, there is a bit of what I have seen refered to as "the staggers" so maybe a change is worth trying. A fellow Trainz enthusiast is dying to have a go at loading 2009 again for me. He has successfully uploaded 2006 to 2009 and is running on VISTA, but takes an age to load.
