TRS2006 or Trainz Classics?

Which should I be using?

At the moment I'm using TRS2006, but my father also uses Trainz Classics. I'm not sure which version it is, but the side panel is red and the box it came in was black with a black loco on it.

I'd really like to know what the difference is and which is better to use and basically a case for both.

The TCs are good if you already have TRS2004 or TRS2006.
The TCs won't work with much, perhaps most stuff on the DLS and comes with a very limited amount of stuff and only one or two layouts.
Most anything on the DLS including layouts will work with TRS2006.
I converted a one board layout from TRS2006 to TC1&2. It was far more difficult than I had expected.

TC3 is very stable and well supported by the originators in the UK, with a lot of new items being made regularly. Although this is a UK 1960's set up, I've used this platform for Australian and US routes originally built in TRS2004. The 60's road traffic, static vehicles and are great for Aussie route from that era. The semaphore signals good for Aussie steam ere too. Most DLS or TRS2006 items will work OK. Until TRS2009 can be fully utilized in native mode there doesn't seem a lot of point in buying it.

You can always import the '06 content into TC3 (I would assume that it is TC3 and that the black loco described is no.92203 Black Prince) giving you the best of both worlds

How?

To do that do I clone all built-in content in CMP for TRS2006 and save it to a cdp then use that file to put the assets in TC3?

The easiest way is to "Open for Edit" then import these using TC3 CMP to transfer. There is a way to combine TRS2006 with TC3, there's a couple of threads on this in the TC forum and maybe the UK Trainz Classics website too.
All I did was import only what I really wanted Wadalbavale and Iberia Interior routes and dependencies for those plus some locos and rolling stock.
Cheers.
