I put all my simulaor games on a D drive....so when I upgrade the OS, I dont have to reinstall the simulators too. Also, anything I download, I place on a external drive so I dont have to redownload them again.....makes sense??
This does makes sense, but with Trainz, you'll have to reinstall it the main appllication no matter whether it's on a seperate drive or partition. This is because of the way it writes information to the registry. Also, with Windows Vista and up, there's the issue of permissions. The operatiing system establishes permissions for your programs and useage. If you installed the program as an administrator in Vista, this is not the
the same administrator that is in Windows 7. What is haoppening is the user credentials have changed for the program that was installed versus what is in the operating system. In addition, if you installed the program as a regular user under Vista, this can also mean a problem for Windows 7.
Having said this, you maybe able to run Trainz, without reinstalling, if you reset the permissions for your old installation. You need to change the use permissions on the Auran folder wherever you've installed it.
Right mouse-button click on your Auran folder, and choose properties.
Choose the Security Tab.
Choose Edit.
Choose Add,
Choose Adminstrator and check all the boxes at the bottom.
Choose Apply.
You may receive a request to supply permsision to make this change.
If so press OK. This may or may not work. If you're asked to supply a password, you may have difficulties if you can't remember your old password and/or username for the old install.
Choose to change the folder and all sub-folders.
If this works, the update may take a long time, depending upon how many assets you have installed.
Now speaking of assets...
They can't be installed, unfortunately, in another other location other than under the Auran directory wherever this is located.
I think this should do it. I may have left out a detail or two because I'm trying to do this from memory. I'm not at my Trainz computer at the moment.
Good luck,
John
