All my simulators (TRS06/09)are located on my D drive not my C drive. I recently upgraded from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate on the C drive. TRS06 works perfectly. However, I cannot get TRS09 to do a full start. I do get the register screen that ask for the serial (CD) number which I can complete. AFter that, I get an update screen saying there's a patch available. I select yes and it downloads and I choose to install it. I get an error message saying that I need Directx 9. I have directx 11 installed with a nvidia 8800GT card. I searched the forums about any issues with Win7 of which I found none of. Any suggestion is helpfull ,......thanks.

Same here. So I went to Microsoft site and downloaded the DX9 of August09. Only to have a whole desktop full of icons for all languages on Earth and many dates. Still, I downloaded everything just in case (hope I can get rid of it if this goes nowhere). The I have not seen the offer to download the patch. Maybe tomorrow...?

You need to run the program as an Administrator in Windows 7 just as you do in Vista.

Install all patches as Administrator as well, and you won't have any problems.

What do you have Trainz on the D drive for. The D drive has all the recovery information for your computer and usually don't have that much extra space on it. Trainz needs space. I think you would have been better off installing Trainz on the C drive but not in Program Files (x86).

All depends how the computer was originally loaded with its Operating System (OEM dependent). Not all OS Installs have the "D" drive as a Backup.

I have 2 machines with No "D" drive as a backup or recovery drive, but I have the Original OS disks, and 1 machine with the "D" drive set up as "Factory_Image" and no Original OS Disks.

I have for years and years installed Game software on drives other then "C" specifically for the purpose of some what protecting the game software from reloads after OS crashes. This approach saved my butt more then a few times..

I put all my simulaor games on a D drive....so when I upgrade the OS, I dont have to reinstall the simulators too. Also, anything I download, I place on a external drive so I dont have to redownload them again.....makes sense??

This does makes sense, but with Trainz, you'll have to reinstall it the main appllication no matter whether it's on a seperate drive or partition. This is because of the way it writes information to the registry. Also, with Windows Vista and up, there's the issue of permissions. The operatiing system establishes permissions for your programs and useage. If you installed the program as an administrator in Vista, this is not the the same administrator that is in Windows 7. What is haoppening is the user credentials have changed for the program that was installed versus what is in the operating system. In addition, if you installed the program as a regular user under Vista, this can also mean a problem for Windows 7.

Having said this, you maybe able to run Trainz, without reinstalling, if you reset the permissions for your old installation. You need to change the use permissions on the Auran folder wherever you've installed it.

Right mouse-button click on your Auran folder, and choose properties.
Choose the Security Tab.
Choose Edit.
Choose Add,
Choose Adminstrator and check all the boxes at the bottom.
Choose Apply.

You may receive a request to supply permsision to make this change.

If so press OK. This may or may not work. If you're asked to supply a password, you may have difficulties if you can't remember your old password and/or username for the old install.

Choose to change the folder and all sub-folders.

If this works, the update may take a long time, depending upon how many assets you have installed.

Now speaking of assets...

They can't be installed, unfortunately, in another other location other than under the Auran directory wherever this is located.

I think this should do it. I may have left out a detail or two because I'm trying to do this from memory. I'm not at my Trainz computer at the moment.

Good luck,

John
