TRS 2006 (yes, 2006) help!

Firstly, my apologies if this is the wrong place, I get easily confused by forums.

So, a couple of things that I need a bit of help with, if you please

I have a copy of TRS2006, the british version, and I'm running Windows XP.

1. I'm having all the problems with CMP refusing to open and crashing every time, but my searches for help on google have been fruitless- can anyone tell me what to do here? I'm a novice at coding and stuff so if it requires me to delete files you'll have to explain how to get to them!

2. I just noticed something about a feature called PaintShed where you can re-colour trains or something? Apparently it's included in the TRS2006 somewhere, how do I use this please?

Thanks in anticipation, your help is much appreciated. I will get round to buying a newer version eventually!

Never had a problem with 2006.
Is your OS xp service pack 2.
What build is your 2006, 3337 or 3092. Found bottom right as you launch trainz.

I'm trying to download a service pack for the game atm but my connection's slow so it'll take a few hours.

Do I have to have xp Service pack 2 then?

Used to run it on xp sp2 no problems. Use win 7 now. At build 3337 your up to date. What are you downloading ?
Yes you do, download xp SP 2.
Check also you have direct x 9c redistributable.

You will need to do the following if you are putting in a service pack in 2006:

Uninstall your current version.

Reinstall the program.

DO NOT RUN THE PROGRAM, PERIOD!!!
If you do run the program before putting in the service pack, your Trainz TRS2006 will crash, and will need to be reinstalled.
Put in your service pack.

Now run the program.

Seeing as you have build 3337 there are no more updates available, what specifically is it your downloading ?
Back to the cmp issue. Use the forum jump thing bottom right and select 2006 FAQ's. Look at the 1 about cmp crashing. Folders asset tdx and bku are the ones to delete, then follow what's advised.

You might want to try registering your copy of Trainz first as you show as not having a copy at the moment. :wave:

Fran1 Thanks for this guidance.. Just have two more things to ask you then: 1. How do I find the asset.tdx and bku files?
2. I can't find the TRS2006 FAQ, can you point me in the right direction?

Right, unfortunately my outstanding failure at this computing lark meant that I managed to register the game to a new account, rather than the one I've been posting in, so apologies.
Have now registered, could someone direct me to the files i need to delete?

Scroll down to the bottom of this page and you'll see forum jump on the right.
Find the trainz folder, the TDX file should be on the first list you see, BKU is within the cache folder also on the first page.

Thanks for the link. I've looked in the Cache folder, it's totally empty, which is confusing as I found another source which said the same as you.

Also, all my drivers are up to date but my computer fails the openGL test, even though I have OpenGL 1.1.0. Any thoughts on solving this?
I'm about to try again, having deleted assets.tdx and the cache folder.

My OG version is 4.1.0, found in the trainz BIN folder.
