Trouble with AI trains and Portal

I am having some trouble with a portal and AI trains. Here's the issue: When a train is generated from this portal, it comes out with a consist number rather than a driver's name. When I try to CTRL-Right Click, I don't get the command window. I can't take over this train. I cannot see the commands that are given to the driver.

With my other portal, the train comes out showing the driver's name, and I can see the commands for the driver.

I have used the same consist and the same driver in both directions, so it's not something with the consist or the commands. The only difference seems to be the direction and the portal. I am NOT sure if the portals are different. Could that be the problem?

Make sure your portals are connected with the portal-entry end to the tracks, otherwise weird things will happen including derailments as the trains emerge.

The portals are connected correctly. They generate trains correctly, almost. I just can't take control of the AI trains, and they display a consist number rather than the driver name.

Do the trains interact with anything before the entire train has been spawned? I had a similar problem once (yonks ago) and iirc I traced it to a junction or signal or some such being too close to the portal...

There is a signal that was too close to the portal entrance. The other thing I noticed was that this portal was "portal basic short." When I changed the portal to a regular portal, the issue was resolved.

Something with that short portal seemed to be the issue. No sure why, but the issue has been fixed.
