Cardboard cut-out trees are a feature of 09 and up.
Surveyor > Main Menu > Options > Video Settings > Enable Compatibility Mode > Quit and Restart Trainz
That will minimize the effect.
I see you also have TS10 - I'd be using that instead anyway since 10 is in effect a totally patched-up 09 with many improvements. You will still need to enable Compatibility Mode though...

I am having problems with 2010. Its crashes on me and on the video setting I have to set it on Direct x for it to run smooth and then menu will be to small to read.
And one more question. I downloaded a unpainted Loco from the DLS.
How do I paint it and make changes to it.
Is there a program where I can create my own ?
As u can tell I am new to this and your help would be greatly appreciated
