transforming a steam locomotive into an electric locomotive

Is it possible to change a steam locomotive into an electric locomotive without changing the looks? Like making it's boiler into a huge battery.

In that case I must thank you Red Rattler for pointing me in the direction of one of my all-time favourite web sites!

Why in the hell would you want to do that?
It's because I would like the steam trains to be as green as the electrics are so that other country (that we had given all of our steamies to) can still have their revolution as well as being green.:)

oh yeah I can't understand many the complected words in the link and the picture of how the train worked.

Ben,

1) Steam trains aren't "green" - unless you go right back to the wood burning US ones (which are really only "carbon neutral" if you plant enough trees to replace those you fell for timber).

2) Electric trains aren't "green" until we have a source of electricity that is really green (sometime the other side of a blue moon).

3) we didn't give steamers to anyone - most of the UK's steam engines were recycled (as scrap iron).

4) There are very few steam locos left in the real world, so changing them to electric supply isn't going to be worth the cost.

Most of the UK's export steam (IIRC) went to Africa or (east) Asia. Africa really isn't concerned with "green" at the moment, they're concerned with not collapsing economically, preventing epidemics, and dealing with millions of poor people. They really don't need any green locomotives right now, and it would be a huge hassle to convert a steamer to electric power. Asia is a lot like a huge crazy technological wonderland and most countries have long since gotten rid of steamers, except parts of China. (and we all know how environmentally friendly they are:D)

In short, it ain't practical.

It's called a dictionary.

TOP SECRET

Keep it under your hats but here is a sneak preview of our latest effort. At the moment it is a bit draughty on the footplate but that is being worked on. Now does anyone have a 1.5 volt 1500 horsepower electric motor?
