Transdem Help Needed

Two questions :

1. Are you running a version that can be directly updated using that setup program?
2. Why are you running the program directly from a compressed folder? Copy it to the desktop first then run it from there.

Alright I went and bought Transdem, can anyone tell me where I can get the data required for the Pennsylvania area of the US? More Specifically The CP Sunbury Sub If You Guys Know where That Is

Can Anyone Point Me To Any Tutorials on how to make a dem in the usa using the website listed above?

It's easy...

The process is:

Choose your area.

Draw a box.

Choose your stuff. You want the DEM its self in arcsec format. Choose the 1/3 for best compromise between resolution and performance.

Get the email.

Download huge files (zip format) from links provided in email

Open the zipped archives and choose the following files: The biggest one, usually about 460MB the .adf file(s) and pull from the archive(s).

This will open up in TransDem. It'll take time so don't get scared if the program looks like it has hung. :)
You'll eventually get the coordinates box.
Hit enter, and the file will appear in the program.

To get your map overlays and images, you need to connect to the webservers. There are awesome tutorials right there in the documentation.

Hope this helps.

I'll try to do what you said but, I'm not sure how far I'll Get:confused: I was hoping for a video tutorial or something of that nature

Sorry I don't have one. It's not that hard, believe me. If I could figure it out with half a brain, I'm sure you can too.

I'm Sure I Will But It Will Take Time

Nah. It took me about an hour to get the "quick" method down. There is a lot of other stuff in there that you probably don't need, but getting the basic downloads done, is the easiest part of the process.

Do the "Quick Start Guide" first (TransDEM Trainz manual). It suggests SRTM DEMs and Open Street Map for practicing. Once you are familiar with the basics - after an hour or two, you can go for the more advanced resources: USGS NED DEMs and USGS 1:24k topo maps. The topo maps will be accessed via WMS - tutorial in the TransDEM main manual. For the NED DEMs you'll use The National Map Viewer, mentioned above. An illustrated tutorial can be found in the TransDEM forum: http://forum.transdem.de/viewtopic.php?p=1172#p1172.

Alright I've gotten to the point where I got my merged DEM map, Next I wanna do the vector data, I got the data but its in the wrong format. I tried following the tutorials on the Transdem website but I keep getting lost. Plus I think one of the websites outdated because I can't find what the directions say to do. Any Help?

If you want to use vector data for basic purposes, like baseboard creation filter or for WMS / map tiles paths, the easiest way is to use the built-in "Simple Route Editor" and simply trace the course of the route on the georeferenced raster map, as explained in the WMS and map tile tutorials.

USGS DLG data, which you probably refer to, is a more complicated matter, and I wouldn't spend time on that for a first TransDEM route project. But if your really want to dig into vector data you could have a look at the Open Street Map (OSM) tutorial, which involves JOSM. OSM is often more detailed than USGS DLG.
