Trainz vendors - does it matter?

I read the blurb about problems with Trainz 2010 download from Amazon.com from the vendor Steam/Valve. The statement there is that you could not update that download version through Auran.

Would you have similar problems if you ordered the boxed set from Just Trains or Topics Entertainment?

I'd prefer to purchase the actual media (rather than download), but I'd rather order it locally (in the US) rather than wait for it to be shipped from Australia. At the same time though, I'd want to be able to update and patch from this website.

Thanks,
Andrew

I bought my boxed set from a vendor on E Bay for about $25.00 with shipping. It arrived in 5 days, new, and have had no problems registering, patching or using it.

Just Trains has been known in the past to add their own DRM, such as requiring a disc to be in the drive. Steam has an internet tether, so if they ever go out of business or stop supporting Trainz, you most likely will be left with a program that can't run, never mind any routes or sessions you create.

My father got his from jointedrail.com ... same downloads as mine (from auran) he saved money by using JR's club car discount.
