Trainz sounds

Why is there so many problems with the engine sounds in Trainz? I have 2004, 2006 and Classic. The engine sounds go in and out. I usually have to move the throttle to make the sound return. I've had this problem with Trainz for years on four different computers. Can someone at Auran explain this? Is there a fix? How does new versions come out with the same problems?

Is everyone mad with me???????

On January 12, I posted this "sound problem" hoping to get an answer from someone with similar problems or someone from Auran. My post had 72 views but no replies. I really was not criticizing Auran but I was hoping to get an answer from them.

Bomba,

Engine sounds have never been perfect in any of the versions you mention. It is ONE of the most posted problems on the Forum regarding the recent Trainz releases !

There is a search program available to learn about it , and other matters , prior to starting a thread !

Bomba,

I trust you have far less problems with TRS2004. I don't recall having any problems with it. TRS2006 and TC has had sound problems for me. I suspect the sound code was rewritten for TRS2006 so it used less procesor time, leaving more for other stuff.
Look around the forum and you will find allot of advice, some of it good, on how to minimize sound problems.

Sometimes my sound acts up.

I have to turn the volume all the way up for my son, but when he jumps into internal view and starts tooting the whistles it gets kinda loud. I want to know if when inserting multiple assets of the same type during surveyor uses more memory when noises are attached?

sound problems

I managed to rectify most of my sound glitches by reducing the amount of Hardware Acceleration in the Windows settings in Advanced Audio Properties of Windows XP

As I understand it, the sound system in TRS2004 works perfectly and any problems are entirely due to individual assets.

However, there is an unresolved bug in TRS2006 which for a significant number of users causes the sound to fade regardless of assets. Changing the sound board hardware may help, or may not. AFAIK SP1 did not address this issue.

Hmm. I find that there's no problem except at the centre-point of the stereo image, where the prog can't seem to make its mind up as to left or right and jumps a bit.

I just assumed it was a minor bug and avoid viewing at that particular position.

My soundcard is good enough

Trainz has always had sound issues, and I've been a fan since it was released.
For me, sound problems/innacuracy is probably the biggest annoyance and really makes me want to get my Msts out of it's sleeve and just be done with it.

No Clickety-click track sound.....
Unreal horn sound........
Cab control lever sound is primitive and delayed.
I could go on....

A BR Class 43 HST Diesel Locomotive doesn't sound like an American/Aussie Loco, be it a Dash 9 or a GP38 for that matter (Yet it is modelled with these sounds on NEW released versions of Trainz) {Come on Auran this is Basics, and if Kuju can do it for free, why can't you guy's fix it}

My soundcard is better than good enough and exceeds the reccommended requirements.
I've got all of the latest drivers for my sound boards and can play all New title 08 games without any sound problems or dropout.
MSTS/Boso View Express don't do this, I know sound file architech structures are fairly similar, so surely it's just a case of Playing back a series of Wav files?

This is a Trainz issue, so why do you guy's keep telling people it's their hardware?:(

I agree with shagzdan, this is a trainz problem. This happened on three different computers, and four different soundcards over the period of time that I have had trainz.

It appears that this is a problem that we are going to have to learn to live with:(

There used to be sound problems with TRS04, but all problems disappeared overnight when TRS06 came out and TRS04 assumed a saintly mantle. ;)

To be fair I think it is generally agreed that TRS04 sounds are the best out of all the Trainz versions, but Trainz Classics 3 'promises' improvements. We shall see. :)

For me TRS2004 sound work best. Both 2006 and TC suffer fading and cut out problems. A sound that seems to have been removed after 2004 is the rumble sound when rolling stock passes over points. That was a real wow factor for me when I bought TRS2004 along with the other great sound effects. There a lot of custom horn sounds on the DLS and most of that inbuilt paintshed content I've made have been fitted with those.

Yes, I nodded my head in appreciation at both Willblunden's and amigacooke's posts, although I don't disagree entirely with some of shagzdan's comments either. However, I personally think TRS2004 is the best version, I cannot remember UTC, it's so long ago and we don't have the forums anymore to do any research on how many complaints there were regarding sound issues, if there were any anyway, we were a humble lot of trainzers 5 years ago....now listen to us.:hehe:

Obviously, it all depends on the types of track and locomotives we operate as to the sound authenticity we may or may not hear.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

I have heard some rumble when trains pass over points, but only very occasionally, and only on the MP-track from HP-Trainz.

I to have had these problems on various setups ,the real bad one for me is when you can hear the Mine loading the trucks, eaven if you are at some location many Km away form the mine, !!

the rest I can live with but this is realy a no-no

For Auran mainly, but feel free to comment, after all you readers are why Auran exist!

So I wasted my money on Trainz 2006? Thanks Auran stitched up again!

But hey...what if TC3 isn't any better{Again}, We are each £20-£30 out of pocket, its just not acceptable, we are your customers.

I've spent the best part of £200 on my whole trainz set up, including third party content, and all version releases, as well as the numerous patches every other blo^dy month, and if a patch or upgrade falls on the start of a new year, Hey here's an idea Auran (Sarcasm iminent) re-box the patch, chuck in a new bit of content and label it Trainz Classics IV!.

This really needs sorting, I'm starting to edge away again.
The only real thing I like about trainz is the surveyor, but when another program comes out which can rival this, I'm going to move I think, theres just too much dissapointment with every release since day one.

I can't say how mad I am but a list of issues that keep rearing their ugly heads on the forums are, (Not in order of any kind)

1. False engine Sounds either gp38 or a quiet BR Class 37 or go away, Nil track clickety clack, No rumbling, flange squeal, Cr£p horn tones.

2. Unreal cab sound/view, control lever sync-sound, very slow brake release/application., cartoonish appearance.

3. Cmp crashing, downloading content which doesnt work with older versions.

4. File innacessability, stupid Kuid system.

5. Re-Dressed surveyor, I.e I looked for a different looking tree under the German scenery tab, I Can't speak German let alone pronounce the stuff Couldn't find it under the English version release so it now takes me twice as long to find an effing tree!, .Surveyour labelling all without Logic, Ie Tside level crossing instead of Level crossing?
Cant do water at different heights, can't put a tunnel through certain angles, track bends awkwardly in opposite direction. Displacement settings not clear...Blah blah etc....Cant lay ballast properly due to a massive circle thingy, Use a set of brushes like in Microsoft Paint....

6. Unreal Train physics, Background sound drowned out by loco horns 2 miles away! Noise dropout, Quiet external noise in relation to a thrashing class 50 that sounds like a mouses fart on external view.

7. Terminoligy lesson #1, Britain invented the train and railways ergo our great empire terminology should be in place.
Turnout= Having a Cr*p LOL!
De-couple=Uncouple
Engineer=Driver
Track gang=Track maintenance crew
etc....

7. Lots more can't be bothered to list, at the mo, im going to look at the NEW train simulators (At least they can spell it!)

I think I wont buy any more Trainz products :'( for about ten years, they will either have sorted it  or be bankrupt by their own fault.
WELL P`$&ed Off!!

Shagzdan,

I am sorry you feel this way. I started my "railroad career" when I was very young working with HO guage in the basement. It cost me every penny, nickle and dime I could scrape together to buy the locomotives, rolling stock, track, switches, wiring, speed control system, buildings, ground cover, etc, etc, etc. It literally cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. I was never quite happy with the quality of the "stuff" that was produced by all those manufacturers who were charging so much for a piece of equipment, but I kept buying because "it was better than nothing"......

My little empire grew to fill the entire basement (25 foot by 45 foot) with only the furnace and hot water tank left to share the space! I was never able to achieve the layout of my dreams because it was just simply not possible. The Winnipeg yard and associated facilities is over 8 miles long and over a mile wide at Weston Shops. Enitrely unfeasable to model it even in Z guage which I also spent thousands on and offered even less detail than HO or N.

Then came the real opportunity - I became a breakman for CPRail and worked my way up to "engineer" (That is what we were called in Canada). For the next 15 years of my life I "played with the real thing" and had the time of my life. Unfortunately, I had a severe accident which took that life away from me and along with it, the income to continue modeling.

Then came Trainz - and for an extremely small price was able to obtain a product that not only allowed me to regain a large part of my life but exceeded my wildest imaginations. I now have the entire Winnipeg Division of the CPR modelled in Trainz. Trackage that amounts to over 4 thousand miles of mainline and branchline subdivisions.

Admittedly, Trainz is not perfect. Then again, neither am I. I, as mentioned have had a severe injury, I have also had 2 strokes and am now currently struggling with cancer. If I did not have my dog and my Trainz, I would have packed it up and cashed in long ago.

So, while you may not be happy with the extremely minor flaws in the Game - yes it is only a game - please consider the rest of the community who, like you have noticed these little imperfections, but are willing accept them - for the alternatives are far less acceptable to most of us.

There is absolutely no place for swearing in posts. If you are not happy with the game, or the community, just leave. We don't need to be brought down by more negativity. There has been too much of that as it is.....

In case you are not aware Auran has had to undergo extreme down-sizing and are struggling to meet goals. Why not offer some help and creative suggestions and help them out. If you can do a better programming job then send in your resume and hire on.

As for myself, if I live long enough, I will continue to purchase each and every version of Trainz that is released. It is the only very small way that I can help them out. I want to see Auran succeed and I want to see Trainz continue for as long as there is a child, or an engineman, in all of us.

Just my two cents.

Brian

WELL P`$&ed Off!!

An immediate solution to not extending your problems is to wait and see what the (balanced) reaction is to TC3 before buying.

Trainz isn't perfect, but you should see the fun I'm having with Kuju RS. A new simulator and a whole new set of bugs.

Hi there Brian,

Hang on in there. We will both beat this won't we:).

We are both enjoying our hobby. Tomorrow ... another route eh?

Hi Brian
Yes and Yes again - you hit the nail right on the head - I seldom read "long posts" right through but yours was the exception - I feel you are so right.
