Trainz Plus & TRS22 SP7

I'm a Trainz Plus user currently beta testing SP8 on one of my desktops. So far it is performing really well, even in DX12 beta mode.
I also maintain a Retail version of TRS22 Platinum Edition (PC) on my gaming laptop. I just upgraded that version to SP7 today and am impressed with the results and new tricks that SP7 brings to the retail version. Performance is excellent.
My experience is similar to @pware above. The patch itself introduced no new errors, but some Packaged Payware remains out of date even after a visit to the Content Store on the Launch screen.
There was, however, a lengthy EDBR following application of the 9.3GiB patch which by habit I observed via "Show Client Logs" before I attempted to start the simulation proper. When that completed, I ran TrainzUtil.exe prebuild to pre-cache my local assets and started the game.
It loaded quickly and performed better than ever, rendering frames faster and more reliably than before.
Recommended!
Thanks N3V and @n3v_laurence

Ok, so I have two issues with my TRS22 Platinum SP7 (Build 137673)
#1 - Opening up the game or previewing an asset takes a significantly much longer time to fully load, like about a minute or two, or sometimes three minutes to fully open, when it was usually pretty much a couple seconds to instantly prior to SP7.

#2 - Bulk Asset Replacing for Surveyor 1.0 (Specifically textures for some reason) freezes my game, which is actually a big problem as Surveyor 2.0 still doesn't have proper bulk replace tools (And probably never will from what I've heard), and the only quick way to replace them freezes up my game.

I think these issues should very much be addressed, especially the second one.

So, I went ahead and loaded up other routes to see how they performed, and two DLC routes I reinstalled in my TRS22PE copy are Liskeard to Looe and Bairnsdale to Orbost to see how they perform with the SP7 patch. Even with Clutter disabled, the Bairnsdale to Orbost route nearly maxes out my GPU memory when in certain areas, but other than that, I am quite impressed with out well the other parts of that route as well as the ones I have installed perform. I still get an occasional pause when moving around some areas in order for the simulator to compile the shaders when loading distant objects, but afterwards, the simulator continued running decently on my computer.

@NWR1Thomas and @jaredvazquez012 - Yup. You absolutely need to be patient for all the shaders to rebuild after applying these bigger Service Pack updates. That's why I also run TrainzUtil.exe prebuild before I even start the app - and after ensuring that the obligatory patch installation EDBR has completed.
For those users with large local file contents already installed, these initial database repairs will take significantly longer than normal as it is recompiling all of your scripts and validating all of your content folders and files once again.
So - please be patient - and expect that you'll see Compiling Shaders messages each time you open up any of your routes and sessions for the first time since the patch was applied. Eventually, your Trainz performance and responsiveness will improve markedly - and the next time you run that same route or session, things will return to normal (or, in most cases, better).

This depends upon how much content you have. When I went from SP6 to SP7 Beta, my DBR took... 20 hours.
What is the size of your local folder?
I have 15 GB of content (70% made by myself, built 5.6 or 5.7) and for me my extended DBR was 5 minutes more or less

That is normal for the first time you start a new SP update. The program spends some time pre-chaching the assets and/or recompiling shaders. It may also happen each time you open an existing route for the first time after the update. After that loading times will be back to normal.

Bulk Asset Replacing for Surveyor 1.0 (Specifically textures for some reason) freezes my game, which is actually a big problem as Surveyor 2.0 still doesn't have proper bulk replace tools (And probably never will from what I've heard)
I just tried a bulk replace in both Surveyor 1.0 (Surveyor Classic as it is called) and Surveyor 2.0 on a large route. It worked perfectly in both cases. The Surveyor 2.0 bulk replace was noticeably faster.

As for "proper bulk replace" Surveyor 2.0 now gives you the options of replacing in the entire route, the current baseboard or the marked marque selection area.

No problems with updating to SP7. The route I am working on stuttered once or twice, then ran flawlessly after that. I checked all 89 miles of my route and everything is intact and normal.

I did not change any of my settings after updating and noticed something quite wonderful. Many of the buildings and objects on my route suddenly have more details and look way better then they did before the update. And no drop in frame rate.

Well Done N3V Games !!!

Ok so it turns out the first issue was caused by an INVISIBLE DATABASE REPAIR that the game added with no warning unless you check the client logs (that not many people use) and by the way, the game doesn't recognize it as being visible and doesn't give you a waiting for database repair notification and the database repair itself, so if anyone's wondering why their game screen opens up black, well...you just found out why.

Still have yet to find the culprit for the second issue though.

I also have the texture replacement issue. I reported this a couple of versions ago and was told it was caused by something being wrong with my route. My workaround is to use selected area or the option to replace the textures one baseboard at a time. This is very painful when a route is now well over 350 km long.

The background DBR showed up a couple of versions ago during the betas. We were told that that would go away, which it does not. This has caused countless issues for many people because they are unaware of the DBR running. Again, this has been reported but it wasn't fixed. With the current ongoing beta for SP8 in progress, we should come up with a list of things that need addressing by the QA Team and report them.

The update went smoothly. Took about 20 minutes in total. There were no faulty assets. I have tested several of my routes and so far so good. I will be checking later to see what effect, if any, this update has had on CPU and GPU usage.

I have not yet replaced any of my Treez with the new ones. It seems like a big job trying to find the equivalent trees and bushes. Any suggestions on this?
What I did was put all the trees that I use into a scrap book page and clone it down over enough area to ensure I got all my trees down. Then I started working through all the PF trees and comparing to what was in my painted scrap book to find the most appropriate match and did a bulk swap for each. I followed the same method for my bushes separately too. When it comes to the Auran own assets , n3v's webpage says that eventually the trees will automatically swapped out for the new ones anyway with trs2027/+. So I for now have left Auran's won pine trees, poplars, willows in place.

Calamity Custard!! Let SP7 install, and then tried out a session I'd saved in Coal Country 2 (After some time waiting for database rebuild/repair) and its now a rancid stutterfest!
Have had all the 'Performance' settings at low or medium before the patch and it was always smooth, now its stuttering every few seconds, and moving about in free camera mode is a blocking stut-stut-stut mess.
Will have to re-install this 'orrid of a 32 bit game - and see how it goes on from there.
Will let you know if its still the same, or is ok?:confused:

I'm very sorry, but could you advise me on how to update TRS22? I'm currently using version 131965 (English version) and I don't even know which service pack it is. I see that version 7 has already been released, but when I check my TRS, I get a message that there are no newer updates. Where can I find these service packs?

Your build 131965 is the version "Retail TRS22(PE) SP6 for Windows". There are 2 updates: build 132285 "Retail TRS22(PE) SP6 HF1 for Windows", and build 137780 "Retail TRS22(PE) SP7 for Windows".

- Start TRS22, and after some seconds the window for the update should pop up. If it doesn't:
-- At the Launch Screen click on "Trainz Settings"
-- Select the "Install" tab, and click the "Check for Trainz updates ..." button. If no update is offered:
--- Click on the "Change Trainz update stream ..." button, and select the "TRS22 Beta" stream (possibly needed for the first update)
--- Don't forget to reset the update stream to "TRS22" after the update

After an update Trainz usually does a DBR (database repair) or EDBR (extended DBR), without any visible message or sign of progress. The most obvious hints for this (E)DBR is the activity of the disc, or the client log of Trainz (from the Launcher: Developer -> Show Client Logs).

Don't reinstall, the game is precaching assets in the background. Wait for that to finish. It may take a while on a platter HDD.

well this pertains specifically to this update so i'll post here. So far the only real issue I have here and it's a big one for me is that all the "ground cover" foliage (grass, and flowers) are not visible and when i select them in surveyor 1.0 they show in a darkened screen and when i click to apply to the route they do not show up. Help please.

Well, I said I'd report back on how TRS22 is after reinstalling it, after doing that there weren't any more updates you usually have to install - like the previous build had.
There is less stuttering than there was in Coal Country 2, but its not running as smoothly as the previous build, also, several assets missing, a bridge, the pointy things at coal piles, etc.
One step forward, two steps back . . . .a bit like the versions of flight simulator 2024!

This install was painless for me. I installed over the RC version, which I had turned into my main release a couple of weeks ago. The DBR took a few minutes
This was my experience of SP7 too - a slight increase in performance over the RC version.

However, the bug I reported in a slightly earlier build regarding some replacement splines not being able to be replaced is still there. Watch the matching fence asset - one gets replaced the other does not.

I have one question? Does TRS22 PE have TLR included with this SP7 build 137780
or is it still trainz + only thx.

This service pack for TRS22PE is only bug fixes. There are no new features like TLR or HD Terrain. I think it is safe to assume that new features will not be in any new retail version until they get around to TRS27 or TRS28. Which you will have to pay for all over again.
