Where and how do i get TRAINZ PAINT SHED
for 2009 World Builder
YOSCHIE ( DK )
I DONT WANT TO BUY IT AGAIN
NOT AT ALL
THERE MUST BE SOME WHERE I
CAN DOWNLOAD ( TRAINZ PAINT SHED )

You do not, Paintshed is obsolete now and can not be used with 09, you can use Paintshed roiling stock in 09 you just can not make new in it. The next Trainz may not support it at all.

...yea, mine is now stuffed up under my bed...

 ...I whipped PaintShed out the other day & knocked the cob-webs off, to see if by chance a MagLev was included...

It's not...

All someone has to do is create meshes(.im), texture-maps including a bump-map, config file, shadow mesh .im & art files & we can have whatever we want to produce in TS2009 using PaintShed...

How long could that possibly take?

What law says Auran has to do it?

yoschie..

Dont use CAPITALS it is classed as shouting on the forums and is one sure way to get your self ignored.

Making two threads on the same thing generally doesn't help either, or was the first on closed before this one was started?

Obviously you've never tried. The one experienced creator who tried this (Whitepass) concluded that the hassle is too great and it is far easier to create from scratch or make reskins using normal paint packages. I too tried it and gave up as you have to be pixel perfect to get any decent results.

teddytoot,

I know backyard fairly well, and I can say that indeed he does know what he is talking about. Search the DLS for his items and you will find that he is very handy with Paintshed.

Cheers,
Woody:cool:

teddytoot IS correct regarding templates for paintshed , Whitepass I believe made two and then gave it up as too much work for the results !

Paintshed is NOT available in TS2009 , and has most likely been retired as far as newer versions are concerned ?

TRS2006 paintshed content can be made to work in '09 , but not created in '09 .

My thoughts --- ,DLR

...to hard for who...?

 Some 50 different assets were originally created for PaintShed, for Auran Trainz...It can't be that hard...

It's the "for-free" part that keeps folks from creating content for PaintShed...the software part is done & done & includes a neat amount of "weathering."

I understand that & use payware items made for me...I don't expect free...but the point is PaintShed is just like Auran Jet...always catching heck, something to slap the face of the giver with, not even close to being fully-realized...what an insult...& I wonder how many "extras" have been dropped for our use because of how PS was so totally ignored by the community...

You said yourself, you gave up...on something that others have already accomplished.

I don't doubt it was difficult to do...once done, each item became available to style as the user wishes...& fact, will always be available to Trainz Legacy users, re-skins will continue to be available on the Download Station no less...

PaintShed was an adventure for me, I've counted over a dozen apps that I had to learn to do to make my efforts as close to professional at the time for content not available at the time...

Check my DLS link at the bottom of this page...

Paint Shed is a complete stand-alone graphics utility that uses the simple tools necessary for content creation...not a visual studio for every need, but just the thing for producing customized styling for pre-made(generic) assets for Trainz & MSTS.

Normal mapping, does not require the texture map changes from one road-name to the next...they just lay low in the body folder.

In fact, if the Content Creator included 4 maps for the 4 views, the rest is pretty much editing those four views for the masks.

Here's Dru's PaintShed Frame Page.

backyard,

I could be totally wrong , but I was under the assumption that the original post was regarding TS2009 and it's Paintshed program , it does not exist .
If you were to write a "simple progam" for TS2009 , ( your words ) , there would be several kudos sent to you by a large amount of members ! I do not see it happening , but the challenge is open .

My thoughts --- ,DLR  !

...your ready...

 Start by downloading the Trainz PaintShed Setup

  • Download to your desktop & scan for virus.
  • Run the installer with Administrator privileges.
  • Install PaintShed to your Program Files.
  • Run PaintShed & setup you preferences(type of interface, location of your TS2009.exe file, etc).
  • Create something & save it to your TS2009/World/Custom folder, in a folder called "trains."
  • You will have to install your content using CMv2/File/Import Content.
Your new content will import & you can then use it in TS2009, however PaintShed uses .pm files now replaced by .im...you'll get warnings about aliased meshes & Progressive Meshes no longer supported by Trainz...but the content will still work for now.

PEVSoft, has a .pm converter file however it won't(yet) convert the PaintShed files...but your content will still work...

...re-skins & meshes...

 If you can use any paint program that applies layers & has a wand tool, you don't need PaintShed.

PaintShed was supplied with low poly meshes & a texture script that allows you to take a given asset, style it as you wish, then applies a little weathering.

It is an open-end software that allows adding meshes created from gmax through the Trainz Asset Creation Studio & masks to be added for "quick skinning."

Thanks to Drucifer for carrying the PaintShed Frame Page page on the web.

On the other hand, If there is no rolling stock for your favorite RR or your personal RR done by the elite that can make it happen in elaborate/complex non Auran programs, we regular Trainzers can manage to paint some stuff of our own. In my case there is little usable in locomotives for Western Pacific so I painted me some SW7s, GP35s (actually GP38s but who can tell the diference) and F7s for WP. I have not figured how to do the silver and orange scheme or the very last scheme of orange and green (see above) but the all green and the all orange schemes were easy enough. I found the WP logo on the internet and, with the help of Irfanview, was able to use them in Paintshed.
It was much easier to create a scheme for my personal (ficticious) Fiddletown & Copperopolis RR.

I have to be honest, I find the lack of Paintshed for TRS 2009 pretty disappointing. Seems like we are moving backwards.

WOW.. this website has been around a long time :)
