Trainz (or something) causes computer to kick the bucket

This has been plaguing me for a day now. I have the latest Nvidia drivers. Card is 8800GTX.

Ok. It seems to be random, but usually a little bit after I save in Classics, all of a sudden it will freeze, then the monitor will shut off as if it's not getting a signal. I can still hear music playing in the background (from Winamp), but after a bit it stops and starts repeating over and over. I have to forcefully shut down the system to fix it.

What's going on here? I've tried reverting to earlier drivers, reinstalling drivers and it still happens! This HAS happened with other programs and games. In fact the 1st time it happened I was at my desktop.

In the mean time I am going to mess around with my game console, I'm a bit afraid of what this constant shutting down (over 10 times now) could be doing to my system.

Could it be Cooling Problems?

Could it be Cooling Problems? When computers get hot they do all kind of strange things including what you are describing. What temp are you running at?

Had a similar problem was either the cable to the monitor or a bad cable connection on the monitor or back of the box.Was ok after I replugged the cable.

Well, I deeply apologize for wasting some of your time...

The DVI to VGA adapter in the back of the computer was loose. :hehe:

Geez, I'm so dumb sometimes! I need to quit panicking like this.

Why was it a waste of time if the problem is solved . we now have another answer to a question if someone else has the same thing happen to them.

Some people have suggested a few things that could cause a similar problem, but nobody put forward the one that caused my crashing.

In my case it was a faulty memory module.

After trying to find the problem many other ways, and even re-installing from scratch, it turned out to be just a crook memory module.

So don't just do a re-install without checking all possibilities first.
