Trainz Mac on MacBook Pro Core Duo?

I am the nut of the train
Hello! I am an avid Mac fan, so when I heard Trainz Mac had came out a bit of a while ago I wanted to try it out. But all I had at the time was a G4 tower (what I'm currently posting with). Now I have a MacBook Pro Core Duo, so I am wondering what people's opinions are on how well TS Mac will run on it.
Here are my specs:

- 1.83GHz Core Duo
- 1GB RAM (can be upgraded to 2GB if absolutely necessary)
- ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 128MB VRAM
- OS X 10.4 Tiger (Can be upgraded to 10.5 Leopard or 10.6 Snow Leopard if absolutely necessary)

I know these are pretty bad specs, but I just want to know if it will run at all. Any feedback would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
trainut

Trainz works fine on my MacBook Pro (13-inch).

What year was the macbook (that you have now) released? If you have an old one, I would recommend one of the newer MacBook Pro's. They have better specs.

Here are my specs-

4 GB of ram

Intel Graphics 3000

Intel Core i5 Processor - 2.3 Ghz

O.S-10.7.1 (Lion)

Trainz runs really smooth with these specs. It surprised me!

Mine was the MacBook Pro 1,1 released on January 10, 2006. Here is the EveryMac page for it if you want more details. Mine is currently running OS X 10.4.11, but can be upgraded to 10.5 or 10.6 if needed. Lion is not an option considering that it needs a Core 2 Duo or higher, and mine is a Core Duo.

OK, how many FPS do you think I will get (hello from the MacBook Pro)? Thanks so much for the help by the way!

It depends on the exact hardware, layout you are running, location on the layout, quality sliders, etc.

Based on my experience with Trainz on a new iMac 27", a 2 year-old MBP with Nvidia graphics, and a gen 1 Mac Pro I don't think your MBP 1,1 will be very satisfactory in general.

OK. Sorry, I know "how many FPS" is not very specific. With the sliders all the way down and the computer upgraded to max specs (2GB RAM, OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard) do you think the average FPS for a medium-sized/detailed route will be above or at 25 FPS?

Parts and Labour, it's a mac user asking about specs, are you saying this forum is only for specs about PC's??

Hello, My macbook does not function with trainz. And then more french which I haven't got time to think about

Won't work on my MacBook Pro either

2.53 Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT display card
OS 10.5.8

keeps crashing when trying to go into a route. I've tried every screen res, no luck.

Has ANYONE gotten it to work on a Core 2 Duo, or in OS 10.5 ?? So far looking like a $50 waste.

I have run it on that spec machine, BUT not with 10.5. Is there a reason you haven't updated to 10.6 or 10.7? That's the first thing i would do.

Your problem is probably the OS, I think TS Mac only works on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or OS X 10.7 Lion. I just upgraded the MacBook Pro in question originally to OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (that's the farthest mine will go, it only has a Core Duo). Plus installing 10.6/10.7 will speed up your system, they don't have the un-needed PowerPC compatibility codes that OS X 10.5 Leopard lugs around. Anyway, with the RAM upgraded to 2GB, OS X 10.6, and a 250GB 7200rpm HDD how do you think my MBP will run TS Mac on the lowest settings? (My video card is an ATI Radeon X1600 with 128MB VRAM). 

Thanks, I'll try that, and see how it goes. They list OS 10.5 as system requirements, so thought it should work.

Yeah, Snow Leopard is around $40 or so (I think) directly from Apple. Lion is only available on the App Store, so if you have 10.5 or earlier you have to get Snow Leopard and then buy Lion for $29 on the App Store.
