Trainz 2010 (and Blue Comet) now available on Steam

Finally...been waiting to get Trainz 2010 since my download attempt earlier this year failed miserably. Not that I'm a big fan of Steam, but its nice to have an alternate way to get Trainz 2010...

I bought 2010 from Steam then found I couldn,t download it as the server was always "busy" Never again.
P.S. I got a 2010 disc from Just Trains (U.K) but I found a lot of the older routes were omitted. Whatever I do I can,t win! LOL.

Downloaded just fine. Took about 70-75 minutes. Not too bad. Up and running and just messing around for now....:)

I have several games running fine through Steam, including Civilization IV (Mac version), Empire: Total War and RailWorks.

I probably have in the order of 10 games now from Steam... with no problems.... To each their own I guess!

Why anyone would willingly stick their head in a noose is beyond me. Sure, Steam promises never to tighten it but ... . Just have to read the many tales of woe from the RailFail crowd to appreciate the freedom to play Trainz whenever I feel like it and not just when Steam lets me.

Looks like Blue Comet is now available on Steam as well.

...and for those who don't like Steam, I think I saw Trainz 2010 available on Gamersgate as well...

I've never had a particular issue with Railworks (or other games) on Steam though since RS.com introduced their career system using Steam Cloud I'm a bit concerned at the messages about synching content between my main PC and laptop. Is it suddenly going to delete content or files on one machine because they're not on other.

At least Steam means every time I uninstall RailFail then have a change of heart a few days later, Steam takes care of the patches and DLC once the install from disc is done.

In fact a disc install with Steam updates is probably the best system as it avoids the giga download of the main game.

Not sure I follow you there? I could wipe Trainz completely and then re-install to whatever patch level I wanted, without a single new download.

What down load? Every file I need is on an external backup disk or on the install disks I bought. Don't even need a connection to the Internet to have someone else decide whether or not to let me play.

It's great to see that Trainz 2010 is now on STEAM. Is there a way to take TRAINZ 2010 which I bought last year when the game was released and transfer my registered copy and port it over to STEAM so I can download through STEAM and keep it in my steam account without having to purchase the game again just to have it on STEAM?

I think it's brilliant to see Trainz on Steam. For those who keep ranting on it. Sod off. Valve, tightening a noose? Really? Valve is one of the best companies in the industry. Compared to Activision, Valve has much better work ethics and seems to play fair.

Not to mention this put Trainz out to a large audience of people. Those casuals you all whine about never getting, well you got them.

Also Steam doesn't require you to be online to play. There is an offline mode, on the other hand it does require you to be online to install and update the game.

I think that Auran made a wise decision to put trust in Steam. If anything they will make a few more bucks from those amazing Steam sales which seem to keep on giving.

Also having the addon packs for 2010 available on Steam like this also makes it more in the eyes of casual players as it shows up in the news stream and on the front page of their store.

Try and fault Steam all you want, but I've used it for about four years now, and I've not seem a large fault, yet. I trust Valve and I'm starting to trust Auran again.

I think they both made great decisions here.
