Trainz 2010 EE (aka TRS09 EE)

I was on the Auran store looking at the videos and pics they have for 2010 EE and they look pretty amazing. I was looking for the system specs but couldn't find any. I'm not looking for minumium requirements, I'm wanting to know what the real requirements are to run 2010 EE like those videos. Graphic details set to high and draw distance set to at least 2,000 meters, yards, whatever the measurment is. Anyone know??

TRS2006 runs ok on my PC but the sound issues with that game are redicules, TRS2009 I bought last fall is laggy even after the lastest paches/service pack.

I love Trainz but I can't seem to get any copy of this game to run smooth on my pc where I can really enjoy playing.

So what's the real specs for TRS2010 EE??

Out of curiousity, what are your system specs? Trainz - any version - requires a dedicated video card with at least 512MB of RAM. The video card is the number one stumbling block on the game. My 2009 ran OK on the the following:
AMD Phenom 8450 tri-core 1.5Ghz
4GB total ram with 512 shared with the NVidia Geforce 6150SE
Trainz at mide range on all settings

When I upgraded to an Nvidia 9800 Gtx+ with 1GB, Trainz flew with maximum settings on all.

Auran line is that integrated video is a no-no and performance is the big reason.

2010 performance is supposed to be better but of course, until it is released, no one will know for sure.

The recommended system specs for TS2010 are as follows:

* Vista / Windows 7 (64bit)
* 2 GB RAM
* Core 2 Duo or equivalent CPU.
* nVidia GeForce 8600 or equivalent GPU.
* 15GB available disk space.

Please keep in mind that these are not minimum specs, but are our recommendations for a quality gameplay experience. Minimum specs will be announced prior to release.

It is my understanding that if you are happy with your computer's perfomance with TRS2006 you will be at least as happy with TS2010.

I have Windows XP
Duel Core processor
ATI HD 2600 graphic card with 512mb RAM
Plenty of HDD space.
2 gig RAM

I keep my pc defragged on a regular basis and have no virses on my pc.

The only thing I can think is either the processing speed of my graphic card isn't fast enough and/or I need another stick of RAM to get my pc up to three gigs.

I don't know why it's recommended to have Vista or Windows 7 unless your using DX10??

Thanks.

Do you use OpenGL, or DirectX ?

I use ATI and DirectX, and find the following settings added to Trainzoptions.txt are a BIG help in mitigating lagginess...

For TRS2006 (this option doesn't seem to work in TS2009)

-vsynch=1

For TS2009 (results in a FRAPS frame rate of approx 25)

-framerate=23

Results in TS2009 are still not as effective as 2006, but a big improvement on the standard options. OpenGL with standard options gives a lot less lag in 2009, but unplayable frame rates in built up areas (even with my new ATI 4670). Interestingly, on my old Vista/Pentium 4D/Nvidea 7600GT equipped setup, OpenGL gave the best overall results (but with lower frame rates than DirectX).

My current system: Windows XP, E5300 Dual Core (2.6), 2GB RAM, ATI 4670 (was ATI 4350 until a couple of days ago - above settings similarly effective for both cards)

Hope this is usefull,

Phil

Firstly, XP is getting a little long in the tooth. The modern operating systems tend to be a little more polished all round.

Secondly, XP64 isn't a very common environment (and in my experience, isn't well supported by hardware manufacturers.) Vista and 7 tend to have much better support for 64-bit, and running on a 64-bit OS gives Trainz a few extra gig of memory space to play with.

Snippet: I keep my pc defragged on a regular basis.....

I clean my teeth on a regular basis, but it won't make TRS2009 run any better! Unfortunately for some, or should I say most of us, Auran always builds the latest edition of Trainz to work on the fastest computers known to man, woman and child. It's nothing new. Thus the reason for people always complaining on these forums. Those specs look frightening. How many of us can afford computers like that just to run a game? Sure you can use computers with lessor specs, but you will probably have to accept lessor results. Time will tell I guess.

I'm sitting this one out.

A quick look at my favourite supplier found these;

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?BB-542G
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/...idia/Nvidia9400Series/Novatech/9400GT1GB.html

Add your existing hard drive and you've got something slightly better than the recommended specs for under £200 (plus whatever the new O/S costs if you want it).

Get a better graphics card, a new HDD and some more RAM and you'll possibly still be under £300

I am sure there are similar deals to that available in other countries.

Trying to run today's software on a 7 year old machine is never going to be a happy situation. and £300 for many, many hours of pleasure isn't that much IMHO.

(Plus that faster machine will help in other areas than Trainz)

Mike.

I have a pretty basic PC from eclipse computers that cost me £300 and runs TS09 an a perfectly acceptable level using just the onboard graphics card. It has 4Gb Ram and a dual core processor. With a dedicated graphics card, I'm sure it would be seamless.

Dear Abby,
I've recently upgraded my PC and I'm not 100% happy. Why? Because I'm still having problems running your game that I RECENTLY brought.
I upgraded my "286" to a "386", as per your "minimum spec's" shown on the side of the retail box that I purchased from Wallmart !!!.
It clearly stated on the side of your "Retail Game Box" that I can run the game on a 386... Minimum requirements 386 - Recommended requirements; 486 (or better) !!!

Unfortunately current finance's meant that I couldn't go the hole hog and splash out and get a 486 DX2. (I put it down to the re-session).
I've been saving my pennies for a while and are hoping to upgrade to a 486 DX2 before Xmas. Before I go to the horrendous expense of upgrading, do you think it will be all be worth it?

Also do you think I'll be happy with the improved results when I run Trainz 1.3 ??? I also want you to confirm that I will also be able to run the "latests" Trainz games (that's 09 & 010) flawlessly on my brand new 386 PC..
Signed. - Rodney Balfore Junior.

Dear Rodney,
(can I call you Rod, or would you prefer "junior")?

Don't be an absolute _osser!!! Don't ever believe what any Game Development Company puts up as the "minimum spec's" to run their latest game/s.

(Most of it is absolute BS... Most put their minimum spec's far to low. (Unfortunately there's no policeman out there policing theses dodgy companies)...

Why do they put it so low Abby?,
So that low spec'ed PC owners will END UP BEING SUCKERS & will still be fooled into going out an purchasing their latest games, Rod...

There have been atleast 4 or 5 (so called "top ten" titles') in recent times that haven't been able to run flawlessly on the "so called average PC/s". Not unless those supposed "average" PC's have fallen in the latest "medium to high spec'ed gaming machines"... (with the latest bells & whistles)...

Now lets take Auran's Trainz Sims as a simple example; Smaller, lower detailed routes, with most of the "detail settings turned down" will run reasonable well/ well on most PC's under 5-7 years of age.......
BUT TO RUN a very large, really detailed route, with lots of trains
(& rolling stock) and with all the details SETTINGS max'ed out, including shadows, you need a high end gaming PC. THAT'S A HIGH END GAMING MACHINE. (if you have anything less than that, please, oh please, don't bitch)!!!

That applies to 06, TC3, 09, and will certainly included 2010. Speed-Tree sounds really fantastic, and I can't wait !!!! Hopefully the moving tree's will not require to much more in the way of PC horsepower. (I just can't wait to see the branches swaying in the wind)... TRS2010 sounds really promising.

Absolutely "rapped" that Auran keeps pushing the boundaries, "way to go guys". If man wasn't forever pushing the boundaries, we'd probably still be living in EITHER the dark ages or the stone ages... :hehe:
If your not forever pushing the boundaries, you'll just end up with having to put up with the "same old, same old"
As far as I'm concerned that means that your either standing still, or ya actually going backwards.
I say "Auran", keep pushing the boundaries and
"bring it on", warts & all !!!!

There's hope yet that we might be able to talk some of the reluctant 386/486 PC owners to finally upgrade, particularly if Auran continue to keep pushing the boundaries... (a Noah)??? :hehe:
And yes, I know it's a jungle out there & there's a re-session on...

Signed Abby... ;)

One nice thing about Trainz is I don't really need a new computer. The down side is, because of that, I don't have a new computer. (See specs below).
