Trainz 2010 and Windows 10

Will Trainz Simulator 2010 run on Windows 10 OS? Because I've read something from a thread on this forum about TANE running on Windows 10, and I thought I'd asked anyone if older versions of Trainz (2009 - 12) can run on Windows 10.

TS12 runs fine in Windows 10. I've been using it since I started the Tech Preview back in November, and still run it today under the RTM version I am running now. The performance is quite a lot better too in Windows 10. The other versions you mentioned should install and run fine as well. Anything that runs under Windows 7 and Windows 8 will run in Windows 10. This has proven to be 100% correct for me with all the stuff I've tested so far.

Thanks for the info. Just needed to know because I still want to use Trainz 2010 after I upgrade to Windows 10.

I just found an app that gets rid of the annoying GWX icon, and deletes the folder in System32, it's called "I Don't Want Windows10"

Update for Windows 7 (KB3035583) Started the whole mess

I wouldn't advise using third-party apps to remove things like that.

All that needs to be done is to uninstall a particular update (KB3035583).

Conversely, if one doesn't have the icon appearing and their version is compatible, installing the above update will add the icon etc.

I use TS2010 but when I went to windows 10, it messed it up. I'm a content creator and the problem is, it's not going to the game content files. So you can't commit assests and you can't edit anything

What happened?

It messed up isn't very helpful for resolving issues. It's like going to the doctor and saying 'it hurts'. :)

Welcome to the forums.

If you can't run it or save content, right-click on the TS2010 icon and chose Run as Administrator. I'm pretty sure this should solve if problem.

In answer to the OP's question, YES!

I have two installations of TS2010 and two installations of TS2009 working quite nicely in Win10. I imported one of each from my old WinXP system and I did a fresh installation of each in Win8.1. All survived the upgrade to Win10, although I can not say the same for TRS2006. I have not invested much time in trying to get 06 working to tell the truth. I do have the video settings in all set to DX and I do use the TrainzProtocol Changer program. (I also have several different flavors of TS12 working)

Ditto, confirm TS2010 fine on the laptop in Win 10 (I think win 10 might have set it to run under compatibility mode).

Not tested yet with TS12 though I would assume that works okay and with TS2010 running okay little point in testing the older versions.

TANE still to be tested but more a case of evaluating the claimed performance improvements with AMD cards, than whether it actually works or not.

Only downside to upgrading was losing the ability to use MSTS (on the laptop) as there are issues with AMD graohics cards and Win 8/Win 10, however in the grand scheme of things not a great loss.

It will however re-appear and add the folder back again in which case you need to hide the update to stop it installing again.

You could have done it yourself by just uninstalling the update which removes the GWX stuff.

There are 2 KB updates that foist the Windows 10 upgrade crud. They are KB3035583 and KB82952664. You have to kill both of them, or you'll keep getting the "Upgrade now" happy dance. Unfortunately, you also have to monitor your updates (by changing to either 'download, but let me choose" or "let me choose before downloading". Automatic updates will just keep slipping it to your computer every time.
