Trainz 2006 Problems/Crashes FPS drops..

Hello, I am Posting Here because of several problems that only seem to happen to TRS2006, My Dad usually uses This game in His Free Time so he told me to Post here, because he wants the problems resolved or Fixed.

Problem no .1 - Massive FPS drops during gameplay, FPS will go to hell and back, usually down to about 2~FPS for about 10 seconds, then recover to a max of 30~Fps, its usually every 5 or so minutes that happens.
However, This does Not happen on My games, which are more Graphically Intensive then Trainz, and I get Crystal Clear FPS of over 70FPS.

Problem No .2 - Game Crashes when Loading from a SAVE file, whenever he tries to load a game from a Save file on TRS2006, the map will load, the terrain will Load, but the trains and model WILL NOT, after a short time of no Models and trains (sounds still load) the game will display a Fatal Error, but clicking Terminate or Continue will bring the game up again, but with no Mouse Input, only thing to do is CTRL-ALT-DEL.
This Problem does not Happen when starting the Route again. (his Route is pretty massive..I think last time I counted it was like 40-50 Baseboards, being working on it for months..)

Computer Specs

Pentium D 2.80ghz (dual Core)
2gb Ram
700gb Total Hard Drive Space
Ati Radeon 3650 Graphics Card Connected to an AGP slot.
(recently upgraded from a 2600 PRO Graphics card, hoping the problem with FPS would be fixed...unfortunately it wasn't)
Oh, and the Details settings in Trainz are not all that high, infact, we have even lowered it to 0 for everything and the problems still occur.

Thank You for your time if you can Help.

If you're using DirectX try switching to OpenGL.
My system is similar to yours and Trainz is unplayable using DirectX but runs perfectly under OpenGL.

Check to see if the automatic save is enabled for surveyor, and at what interval. You haven't stated if the slowdown is in Driver or Surveyor, so this may apply. Are you using real time virus protection? this could also affect in game performance.

This is a common observation, but other games are built differently than Trainz, and Trainz uses an older gaming engine. Other games, though graphically intense benefit greatly from using prerendered scenes, backgrounds and/or environments. Trainz has to calculate everything, for a great distance, in all directions while keeping track of track paths, signaling and AI as well.

This begins to sound like he is using a bad piece of content, or a piece of content that is using a script (.gs) that periodically repeats, or is loading from a portal in the form of a scripted piece of rolling stock.

40 to 50 baseboards is not that large a route, there are routes with 300 baseboards and above, but it begs the question: "Do these troubles only occur in your Father's route, or do they occur in routes others have made?" The answer may shed some light on the content issue.

Thanks for providing your system specs. It seems well enough configured to run Trainz. What resolution are you using? Are your drivers up to date? CMP requires a robust OpenGL installation to work properly. Is your AGP apeture set properly in your BIOS?

What is the content of your TrainzOptions file?

Does the Jet Log show any reason for these problems?

Have you done a DxDiag, and if so, does everything pass?(Start/run/dxdiag)

Thank You for your time if you can Help.

You're welcome. Please keep testing and we'll see what we can come up with.:)

Only Occurs in Driver.

I think we have too much downloaded Content, it would be way too much of a Pain to search through all of it, but we have had some issues in CMP of some dependencies not being location on the download station (usually a kuid of -1 or something)

As for what you said for The Saves, im going to have to tell him to do a indepth check of all the content to see what is broken and what isnt, mainly locomotives have missing dependencies though.

40-50 baseboards is considered Big for him, considering that he's lost at least 4-5 Routes of 60+ baseboards to do with Computer Issues (he has determination, and he says ' I do not want to lose this one! :hehe:, they also seem to get better as he does more'

There is no other routes to test, as he is the only one that plays the game, its just all the default routes that are the others.

We run in OpenGL as its the only way we can get Trainz to Run at a reasonable Speed (without FPS drops having every 30seconds) we were using resolution 1024x720 (whatever it is) AGP aperture is set to the its maximum which is 512mb (what the graphics card contains)

Trainz Option Contains
-DepthBits=24
-StencilBits=8
-fullscreen
-Jet=bin
-cabinfov=65
-driverfov=55
-DefaultAutoMip=none
-Intro=disable

(sorry if thats hard to read)

Dx Diag passes with complete success.

Thanks !

Bah...I was afraid of that rearing it's ugly head! The Kernel Standard_7c.dll error has been plaguing Trainz for sometime now. In the old forums, before the crash that brought us these new forums, there was a wealth of information about it, but for the life of me I can't remember a solution! Obviously it refers to a display driver, but what to do?

Okay, I'm not done researching this, but I have a busy day or two ahead, so if you read this before I come back to it, please do a forum search for kernel standard, and see what can be found!

Edit: I still think it may be a piece of defective content causing the error, your Father should load his map into CMP, then pull up the dependencies and check to see if any have errors or missing dependencies.

My Father went through and Deleted *EVERY* Piece of Content that Had a Missing Dependencies Icon (the Puzzle peice with yellow), he also got rid of any that had Errors, so basically all we got left is stuff that is fully working as Intended.

It was that same problem that cause me to re-install trains and now the SP1 patch I downloaded doesn't work.

:(

We have tried all sorts of resetting (even lowering the graphics card GPU to minimum settings, Effectively Underclocking it) and Trainz still has these bugs.

We are Contemplating Re-installing Trainz, but do we lose all our downloaded content?

Do we lose the Route... again?

Thanks.

Have you tried the bare route and 1 saved consist, run it for 10 ish minutes save. come out of game, re-load. Note if game crashes or not.
Repeat the process with each consist your dad uses in that route.
If there is rolling stock in sidings which isn't used same again.
Assuming the session doesn't crash on every re-start place a consist used when the game crashed, remove 1 specific set of wagons from said consist ie 60ft TTX boxcar. Run, save, re-load. Keep going until the fault stops. In theory the last item removed is the cause.
I've had it happen to me, took a bit of finding.
