Good morning ,

Could you someone confirm that it is possible to purchase Trainz 2006 as a start and run it on Windows seven ?
There are numerous cd's on sale on e-bay, but none of the merchants knows the answer to the question.

Also, am new to the forum , looking forwarding meeting some of you.

Trainz 2006 will run on Windows 7, but there are some things you need to know when installing and running it.

Firstly, check if there are any patches for it before installing it. If there are, the patch will need to be run without running Trainz first.

Secondly, Windows 7 requires some programs to be run as administrator. Trainz is one of these. See http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php?page=running-as-administrator for instructions on sorting this out.

Thirdly, Trainz 2006 is an unsupported product, so you would need to also buy a First Class Ticket to access the Download Station.

And finally, don't forget to register the serial number if you do buy it.

If buying from eBay, make sure to buy a 'New & Sealed' copy, otherwise you won't be able to register the serial number.
Trainz is a 'Non Transferable' product.

Hi Shane,
I have been running TRAINZ 2006 on Windows 7 and it goes well, apart from the Australian Waldabavale Line. On clicking " base " , I get a fatal error message
and Trainz shuts down. If I click on " Passenger" it sort of works , but it jumps and stops , jumps and stops.
Is this a TRAINZ error or do I need to return the disk to my supplier. I find it odd because everything else works fine.
No problem in getting refund, but I was keen to make a start with TRAINZ.

Cheers,

Hi again Father Ed,

If you can reproduce the fatal error, copy the information into a post. Either me, or one of the TRS2006 users (possibly robin_hoods) will have an idea on what's causing it.

It sounds like your system is having difficulty handling Trainz, so you may also want to post your system specifications (including graphics card) - see my website if you are having difficulty with this, as I have a utility on there that will help.

Trainz 2006 on Windowns 7

Thank you Shane,

I think you hit the nail on the head. The system, I think has some trouble coping with Trainz.
An exemple also is that Trainz runs in the middle of the screen, i.e. on the left or right , there is some space left
and although I have some technical experience, I am not quite sure how to handle that.

I had followed your advice regarding checking for patches for 2006 and found those.
I tried to install those before actually installing TRAINZ 2006, but the system did not ike them.

Will have a look at the graphics card issue over the weekend.

Prior to TRAINZ i was running Rail Simulator, which ran without any problems whatsoever.
I am also a BVE fan , but I run that on my old deskop ,which has XP.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks Shane
Yes, I think the system has some problenms with TRAINZ, it runs in the middle of the screen as well.

PC would not accept patches prior to installing Trainz 2006.
Incidently have been running Rail Simulator without any problems.

Patches for TRS2006 have to be installed straight after installing the game without running any part of Trainz first.

Shane
Hello Shane,
I know that I dont have a GE Force card. Having said that the program " can you run it ( which incidentily is not available on the net at the moment )
gave me the go ahead that I actually can run. So the problem could very well lie here.
Some pc specs
Intel (r core )( tm) i5 - 241 om cpu@230ghz
hard drive 465.76 gb currently available
ram 4 gb
intel (r) hd graphics family

Intel graphics cards are notorious for not working properly with Trainz.

It's due to the lack of updated drivers.

You will probably find that Content Manager Plus will not load, and you may only be able to run the game in DirectX mode.

Hi Shane,
Thanks for your advices. I guess a bit disappointing. I might be able to return the game to its source
and return to MSTS and BVE. it was worth a try.
