Trainz 2004 vs. 2006; Pros and Cons

Since my computer recently crashed, I'm going to start over on a new system. However; I was able to save a few routes from Trainz. I'm looking for some opinions on whether I should start over with Trainz 2004 or try Trainz 2006. 85% of what I do is route building, so that has a lot do do with it. I am just looking for some pro's and con's of each game so I can hopefully come to a decision. I have also posted the specs of my new system below. Would either version run more smoothly than the other with the given specs? Thanks.

AMD Athlon 64 x2 +4800 Brisbane
2 GB memory DDR2
Onboard GeForce 8 series (8200)
260 GB HD

Just search this forum, you will get all the info you will ever need regarding TRS 2004 versus TRS 2006. If it helps any, I still use TRS 2004 exclusively for playing and for content creating, TRS 2006 is only used on my PC to check for compatibility of my created content.

I still have sound issues with TRS 2006, in all respects TRS 2004 is in my humble opinion the best version around atm for all around playability for me. CMP and its complexity is another issue, if it weren't, CMP would not get reworked in the new TRS 2009.

Others may/will disagree with the above, if you want to know for yourself, why not install both versions and see for yourself. If you do not own one or the other version, AURAN is selling a multi edition pack for less than $50.00 with some extra route CDs thrown in as well. This will help AURAN to get on their feet as well and you will at least get back up copies of the TRS version(s) you already have.

The general consensus around here seems to be that TRS2006 does run slightly smoother than '04. In my experience, that is certainly the case. Of course, I'm sure there are some who have had the opposite result.

The biggest gripe with TRS06 seems to be related to CMP, rather than the actual game itself. Personally, although I occasionally have issues with it, I like CMP just fine and much perfer it to the '04 method of content management.

It's really a matter of personal opinion when it comes to choosing your favorite version of Trainz.
