Trainz 12

Hi, Every time i start Trainz 12, a little window pops up saying,

Updating Trainz Database
Scanning for modified asset files.

This takes a few minutes and is quite annoying. Does anyone know how to make it go away. Thanks.

The likely reason for this is that you are closing your system down too quickly after closing Trainz.

You must allow 3-5 minutes between closing Trainz and restarting Trainz or shutting down/restarting your system.

Asset Update

Hi Shane. Thankfully, you were spot on. I waited 5 minutes after i shut Trainz down and then restarted the computer. I started Trainz again and the window did not pop up. I tested it 3 more times and there was no window popping up. I thank you for your wisdom. Thanks, Andrew.

5 minutes may or may not be a long enough time, it varies depending on what storage actions TADDaemon has left to process when you quit trainz.

The best solution is to use the windows task manager to watch until TADDaemon has finished running, and then shutdown.

There is a windows function that allows programs to hold off a reboot/shutdown until that program is ready to exit, I don't know why N3V haven't made TADDaemon behave as a proper windows program in this regard, I'm sure they MUST have a good reason.

I agree.

andyroo1955:

There is a process that can be followed to see visually when TADDaemon/TrainzUtil have finished.

To do this (note, that as I do not have TS12, this may be different to what it is in that version)

1.Click Options on the Launcher.
2.Click Developer (It may appear as Developer Options)
3.Click in the box labelled 'show database process windows', then click OK - at least one or two extra windows/buttons on the Taskbar will appear - this is TADDaemon (the first one) and any subsequent ones are TrainzUtil. Make sure all of these have closed before shutting down your system.

Thank you

Hi. Thanks to all who have replied to my question. I have now ticked the box next to "Show database process windows" and I wait til TADDaemon closes before i turn the computer off. The problem mostly happened because i would be playing until very late at night, suddenly realize what time it was and hurriedly exit Trainz and then windows. Thanks again for the help and very useful info. Andrew.
