Trainz 12 Hangs on Main Menu

There are times when my Trainz 12 hangs on Main Menu for several hours. TADdaemon log says:

What does assets remaining to validate mean?

This is the DRM initiated validation of the assets in N3V's content you have purchased from Simulator Central. This will happen about every 30 days and until it has validated all the assets you have purchased it assumes you do not have a right to them. When the validation is complete after about 2 hours and assuming the validation has completed without errors you might have access to all your content. Sometimes things go wrong and the validation can completely fail like over the weekend or in part. If this happens you will not be able to use much of the content in you database including non built-in assets that rely on dependencies such as bogies, couplings, enginespecs, cabs etc that are included in the DLC you have purchased. As a result many sessions you have created or downloaded from the DLS will not work correctly because of missing locomotives, wagons, scripts plus many other items.

All you can do is wait out the validation because it is not worth trying to do anything with Trainz or quite often even browsing the forum pages because the validation process takes up so much of your computers resources that everything else will be extremely slow.

I experience this from time to time. This past weekend was terrible.

Very unacceptable behavior on the part of the validation concept and process.

N3V has to seriously look into this process because this process truly is unacceptable, and rethink what is checked and how the process is done. If I had known this would happen, I never would have bought some of the DLC they had available. It's like buying an innocuous looking black box only to find a poison snake inside!

At this time, my install is still validating after starting again late last night. This is the second go round, which finally removed all the missing dependencies. So basically for 4 days I've been unable to use TS12 SP1 HF4. It's a good thing I have other computers and also have other interests away from Trainz.

N3V either is unaware of the problem or just doesn't care.

The old Pennsylvania Railroad in its last days of passenger trains had the philosophy "The passengers be damned". We know where they ended up.
