TOTC cars?

Open the config.txt file. In the effects section you will see entries such as "Your Favorite Railroad Name", "Car Number" etc. Change these to what you want and save the file. You can also alter the colour by altering the fontcolor 255,255,255 entry for each effect. They do not have to be the same so you could have a gold name with white numbers for example. The size can be altered by altering the fontsize value.

THANKS!!!

Thanks alot. But I have one question, if I was to make one car UP and saved it. And make another car SP, would I have to save the SP under a new name or can I only have one car at a time

Each individual kuid would have its own name. If you want different names for the same original coach then you would have to clone it since all appearances of the original in the game are identical.

There is a good tutorial written by John D'Angelo that appeared in Abarten's Virtual Railroader on how to deal with these cars.

Gadzooks! You mean they are so difficult to use someone had to write a tutorial? That certainly wasn't my intention when I made them (gulp).

Ben

How do I clone it?

You can't in TRS2004 as that is a TRS2006 method of making a quick copy. In TRS2004 you will need to find the folder in question in your dispatcher files and copy the whole file to your world\custom\trains file and then rename the file, open the config file and change the kuid: number to one of your own numbers and change the username to your own username. Then do the rest of the editing mentioned above and save the results. Downloading and reading Auran's Content Creators Guide (CCG) is a help with this stuff.

Hello Bendorsey, THE bridge builder.

No, it is not difficult. It is transparent. The article I mentioned is just a kind of corrective lens for those of us with computer myopia. :hehe: Where the heck did I put my glasses?

BTW, thanks for the Icing Platforms. I'm using them and they're gorgeous.

Hi Bernie:

I made those icing platforms quite a long while ago. Among some of the first things I made. One has been downloaded 4 or 5 times more often then the others. I never have been able to figure out what makes one item in a series so much more popular then the others. At one time I thought it was size but that didn't pan out. Sometimes its the biggest, sometimes the smallest, and sometimes one in the middle. Go figure.

TOTC cars aren't overly difficult to make but not at 12 per half hour, lol.

BTW I am open to suggestions for additions to the series. A good Trainzer friend let me know about the milk cars and horse transport cars. I'd never heard of them.

You wanna see something weird - look at my kick-back dumper (and I'm making a smaller version).

Suggestions

Hi Ben,

Since you asked, how about a line of Harriman style arched roof heavyweights with the TOTC concept? There are some good looking clerestory style cars, but no arch roofs that I can find.

This one is a little off topic. I'm planning to attempt a Donner Pass route. What would be great would be wooden and concrete snowshed splines large enough to permit an outside the cab view when the train is in them. Is such a thing feasible?

As to your icing platforms, one of the reasons I selected yours, aside from the fact that they look good, was that I will need several of different sizes and wanted them all to have the same look and feel, but not be identical.

Hi Bernie:

The Harriman series of cars sounds good. Any idea as to where I can get drawings and/or photos?

Don't see why snowshed splines can't be made. Principal is the same as any other spline item. Make each part 16 to 20 ft apart (the distance between supports) so they will bend smoothly. I've seen a photo of a concrete one but need a pic or two of a wooden one. Good idea. Its been added to my pending projects pile (only my booboo bin is bigger, lol).

Ben

EDIT (an hour or so later):
I just finished uploading 2 concrete snow shed splines. One single track and one double track. Show up sometime next week (I hope).
Anyone have a pic or two of a wooden one?

Hi Ben,

Wow, you are bright eyed! I'll be looking forward to those snow sheds.

In the meantime, let me dig around and see if I can find some serious info on the Harrimans, and I know where I can find some good pics of the interior of wooden sheds, but I'll have to scan them. It'll be a few days, I have to pursue Mammon for the next few days. :D Shall I post what I find here or PM?

Hi Bernie:

E-mail might be best as I can save the pics and info but nothing wrong with posting them too. My e-mail address is in my profile.

I keep thinking the Harirman cars are steel sided - not wood as I seem to remember seing a photo or two here and there over the years. Doesn't really matter if the time frame is correct (1900).

No rush on the info.

Just about to test a single track wood snow shed. No photos so I'm winging it. Can always make more with your info.

I've been pursuing mammon for years (haven't caught him yet, lol).

Ben

Hi Ben,

Harrimans were steel cars. I'll send some pics soon. Same with the sheds.

Will email you in about a week.

Hi Bernie:

Well its nice to know my mind isn't completely gone, lol.

I jyst uploaded 2 wooden snow shed splines. a one track and a two track.

Will wait on your info before making more.

Harriman cars on DLS

Ben,
Any chance of an open vestibule version of Harriman_Coach_5? This would be identical to the cars in the 2000 series used on Rock Island commuter services between Chicago and Joliet from the 20s into the 70s. A few of the cars were originally configured with lavs, but those were gone before the mid-60s and those that remained were quite similar to your creations. I've started the route twice now, trying to create a 'spirit of' layout representing the days back in the 60s when I rode the trains to school and to work.

Rock Island used all kinds of leftovers from all over it's line for the commuter services, including EMD B units with cabs from the old Colorado Rocket, babyface Alcos, FM trainmasters, articulated coaches from the Golden State services, and the Aerotrain. But these cars behind RS3s or class P-33 Pacifics are what I remember most fondly.

Thanks for your great creations.

Bob
