tips for mountainous regions

i was curious if anyone had any good tips for creating mountainous regions on routes because thats actually what i prefer
 
I just use the height up tool set to a big radius and fairly high sensitivity to build up hills, then use the plateau tool to add any particular land-form I require. A good tip is to le ave the edges of boards sloping gradually such that the very edge is still a 0 level. This makes it much easier to add an new adjacent board, and then continue the mountains.
I have used this technique succesfully to create a F&WHR inspired welsh narrow gauge route:

[video]http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab163/bobcass/Bobcass_20121204_0026.jpg[/video]Here is my method: Lay a piece of track too the length of the peak you want..next use the vertex hieght tool(under track tab) click on each circle(track ends) the height you want..I usually use 1000m for height, but you might want practice at lower range..Next using the smoothing tool(under track tab) and click on the track and the surf will come up to meet the track..Once you have that complete, then use the plateau tool(topology tab)..Fairly big circle and work down the side of the mountain..

I just happen to think, you might be interested to read a thread "Scenery-lets get real"..Under heading "Surveyors, Operators and Engineers"..There are a lot of tips on scenery..:wave:
 
Large radius low sensitivity for the basic Hill mountain or whatever and gentle use of the plateau tool on a smaller radius.

Or use DEM data via Transdem to import some real mountain terrain as a basis to work with!
