Time to take a break from Trainz

JCitron

Trainzing since 12-2003
A lot has happened to me both physically and mentally, and it's time I step away from my hobbies. I'm tired physically and I just can't seem to "get into it anymore". I started Surveyor, like I've done for probably the 7 1/2 years, and I felt tired, overwhelmed, and even a bit dizzy. I've noticed lately that the whole Surveyor program tends to make me a bit barfy lately. Perhaps it's my eyes, or worse the lovely Parkinson's playing up on me. I don't know at this point, and leaving the program alone has made me a bit more steady on my feet. After I closed the program, I sat there and did nothing. I haven't been in there in about a month now, and scarily I don't even miss it. I just feel the inspiration to do anything with it now is gone. Perhaps while I was on vacation, I did too much and fried my creative side with Trainz and now I'm just burned out.

I'll probably take a break from the forums too. I just don't have the energy for this either, particularly since they've been changed. I find the overall feel of them is not the same anymore. They seem sterile and barren, much like they did when they came back online from the 2006 death knell.

Anyway, I'm glad you're all getting along pretty well, :hehe: and have some great technical support gurus here to help.

So having said all this. There's no need to start a multiple page "see ya later thread" I won't respond or read it. Perhaps in a few weeks or months I'll poke in again and say hi.

John

Hi John

Sorry to hear all that lot. I do recognise the 'dizzy' thing in Surveyor though. Pretty sure it's the grid texture that causes it but if I'm physically or mentally worn down it gets me the same. I've tried very hard to walk away a couple of times, but I'm afraid I'm hooked.

I wish you well with all things, but you have to look after your health first - playing Trainz is a distant second to that.

Till we see you next,

Andy

Okay John, don't read it then! Breaks are good, and looking after your health is good too. Your input will be missed though.

Hi John, sorry to hear about your predicament. Perhaps some time staying away from Trainz will rejuvenate your interests. Take care and hopefully one day (soon) we will see you here again.

Cheers

John - Even if you don't read this I'm typing anyway - you've been a great asset yourself let alone all you've created here! You'll most definately be missed. Take care of yourself and your health cause you only go around once! I can only hope we'll see you again in the future, if it wasn't for encouragement and advice from guys like you, Euphod, RR Signal, Dermmy, and many others I'd have left a long time ago.

Take care
Mike

John, I'm a little freaked out. This is my third post here and I see a tale of a man who is a little burnt out, which I can relate to, having spent a significant amount of time online since 2004 and in several discussion board communities. Some of them burned me out, and I burned out on topics. I too have suffered a health problem or setback, which I seem to have mostly put behind me at least for a respite of 4-8 years, and suddenly find I had a grandkid who was intensely interested in trains. And, then, after scanning the responses, I go back to the top and glance over and get momentarily confused or disoriented (not in the same way I get that some of the imagery and sounds in the game can be disorienting) because I glance to the top right of the box and note your location. Same as mine... spot on, down to the last digit of the zip code. Which side of the river are you on? Maybe the answer is for you to exorcize your trainz by coming by for a cup of coffee and tutoring this brand-new user?

Take a well earned break John and see what happen's mate, I think i'm in the same boat with the eye thing and sumtime's i wish i had of stayed with my Military Scale Model's but at the same time i enjoy this way too much. All the best and i hope you enjoy what ever you may find next to amuse you for a few hour's of the day but like other's have already mentioned here your health is number one so take care mate.
Cheers Mick.

Hi John from the other side of the pond.
I do hope you get better soon or at least find an interest to keep the old grey matter working. That is very important whatever it might be.
Personally and although I have been Trainzing for many years now I do not use any Trainz version much at all apart from testing assets I create in gmax.
I will go back to finishing the present section of my long route but at my own pace.
Using gmax has given me a lot of interest both on and off the PC and I now spend many hours making buildings (mostly) It is another string to my bow and keeps my mind at least a bit agile trying to solve problems, although I am not always successful.
I am disabled, quite badly as far as movement is concerned, so I need something to keep my interest in life going. To that end photography helps a lot, getting out and taking pictures of various things at least gets me involved with the lovely Welsh countryside and very often the people too who are curious as to what I am doing.
You have been with this community for a long time too and it is sad that you are forced away because of ill health. We will all miss you.
Take the break, getting away from an intense involvement is often a good thing. Eventually you may feel the need to do something again and I am sure we will all be extremely delighted to see you posting and active once more.
My attitude is that Trainz is not the only thing to be interested in so I do other things, shooting and fishing for instance, and these get me off the keyboard for days at a time, never a bad thing, one can get stale.
If you can, please do post on here and keep us all up to speed on your progress with your health, remember, you are not alone.

Blessings,

Angela

We all get a little burned out from time to time and have to take a break from things. Do what you have to do to get to feeling better and we all hope to see you back soon. You're a great asset to this community and you'll be sorely missed.

See ya soon, we all hope.

Mike

John
You've helped so many people that I'm sure you don't remember helping me with my very first problem a few months back. That you took the trouble to help a newcomer with what must have appeared a very simple question speaks volumes for your kindness and patience. Thanks for everything.
Alan

John, we will miss you. Take a good rest and take care. Looking forward to seeing you here again, once you recharge those old batteries.
Regards
