Hmmm. Trying to see what was improved. I think the best suggestion I can make is. Go to the DLS find a route that looks interesting. Download it, see what you like about it, change what you dont like. Maybe even after you have tinkered with it you merge it with one of the routes you are building. Just a suggestion.
Plus I've also changed to a more realistic texture and added ballast and trees which A LOT of people complained were non-existant in the first two tries.
Probably not the best example. But here is how to apply ballast in yards. The ballast goes on the tracks only, notice the grass and dirt splotches between the rail sets. And when applying ballast textures always do it with a brush and not the copy and paste function/or fill.
Instead of leaving wide open spaces around track as shown in the pictures, try and have items such as: trees, grass, the odd building if in an urban area close to the track and keep scenery which is not close to the track minimal. This may help avoid framerate stutters and improve the overall look of the layout.
This probably isn't the best example but it's the closest I could find:
And another which is closer to what i'm suggesting:
Seriously, try harder, I've seen people who have never used the game before come up with better in a hour. Heres a suggestion, download one of fishlipsatworks DEMs, use that as a guide to lay your track and roads, even if your not trying to model prototypically it serves as a good base. Stop using all the low quality default stuff, its not helping either.
Actually that texture IS NOT a default I downloaded them along with the grade crossings, the signals are from Jointed Rail, the tress aren't low quality. At least the ones I'm using. I've implemented the ATLS system which wasn't in the previous two versions. And obviously if you hadn't noticed this is one of my basic routes so I'm not going to put a whole lot into it because it's not one of my premier routes I'm building like the other one is. Hints why it's done in such a short amount of time.
Actually those are low quality and horrible looking trees. There are good billboard trees, but those definitely are not it. And why invest in a route if you know your not going to spend anytime make it look nice?
Because I wanna drive some trains and I need some fiction routes. Plus at least I added scenery and those aren't billboard trees. So at the minimum you'd say. If you want more, then I guess I could work on the Eastland Rocket. I'm just taking a break from it.
Yea those are billboard trees. They are a bunch of 2d stacked together to give a 3d look. Go on the DLS and search for JVC 2009 content those are nice 3d trees.
I thought the ones that were stitched together were billboard trees that would see the edge of the map on the route were the billboard ones. Well at least these are better. Wait I think I've downloaded some like those. Let me check.
